NIFLHEIM

Go
through and climb the stairs. You hear the ringing of a Checkpoint. Turn right
and follow the second stairway. You will now see a pile of rocks that you can
climb. On top you will have to jump to the opposite ledge.

Jump to the opposite ledge
Once on the ledge turn left and focus the camera (B9) so you will notice a cave in the opposite wall containing 3 jars – indeed similar to the ones you previously met: two brownish jars decorated with a Sea Horse and a rounded silver one. You already may guess that the Sea Horse jars are empty and the rounded jar contains a Treasure.

The cave containing the jars
Jump to the cave and smash the jars.

Ready to smash the silver jar?

Yes, there is your 11th
Treasure
Return
to the platform and jump to a lower black platform and from there to the floor.
Turn on your Flashlight and follow the steps on your right.

Another staircase
Above
crawl under the low rock (Press B3 and then LAS forward) until you hang from the
ledge.

Shimmy left around the 2 corners
Now
let go to the lower rock and then to the floor. On your left crawl trough
another hole which is a low passage turning right and crawl on until you will
hang from the ledge.

At the end of the passage you will hang from the ledge
Let
go to the floor and climb the rock. Turn around and jump to the other (higher)
rock. This one has a Health Potion lying on top.

Put this Health Potion in your Inventory
Vault
up to the ledge in front of a staircase but don’t ascend the stairs yet.

The ledge in front of the stairs
Turn
right and notice a rounded jar.

A well hidden jar

Yes, it contains your 12th
Treasure
Now
walk up the stairs, turn right and ascend the second stairway.
On top there are two large alcoves – to the left and to the right. Go inside
the left alcove and find a Health Potion lying in the left corner. You’ll hear
some growling of a large animal now.
In the right corner of the right alcove are your typical jars. Smash the rounded
one for your 13th Treasure (by now you already know that the Sea
Horse jars are empty)

A Health Potion in the left alcove

4 jars in the right alcove

And there is your 13th
Treasure hidden in the silver jar
Continue
into the direction of where the chain is hanging. That monstrous growling
doesn’t predict anything good.
When Lara nears the edge a cut movie will show the “friendly” tentacle again
coming from below. You will then see the kind of Octopus to who it belongs: a so
called Kraken.

Meet the tentacle again
It
will retire the tentacle and sit down motionless down in the water pool. Lara
takes her camera and shoots a few detailed pictures and notices that the eye
lids of the monster are blurred.
Oh,
that’s lovely. I hope it’s as blind as it looks.
Then
her attention goes to a round platform with spikes underneath that is hanging
from the chain above the Kraken’s head.
Stand at the edge and observe the pool area with your Camera. You will see some
mechanisms on the left and the right. Have a look at that spiked platform
hanging from the chain. Obviously your goal is to trigger these mechanism to
drop the spiked platform onto the Kraken’s ugly head and kill it. It’s not
friendly at all, so avoid the Kraken by all means.

The Kraken’s head seen through Lara’s Camera

The spiked platform above the
Kraken’s head
There
is a Checkpoint here.
Have a look down from the far edge overlooking the pool. There is a lower ledge
beneath the ledge where Lara is standing.

A lower ledge
A
bit in front of the edge there are two entrances to a passage, one to the left
and one to the right. The one to the left turns right by some rubbish and leads
nowhere. So better take the path to the right.
At the intersection don’t turn left to the pool but keep going straight until
you meet a deep pit. At the edge turn left and jump up to a narrow ledge on the
wall.

Jump to this narrow ledge
Shimmy
right and jump right to the next narrow ledge.
Now let go from the 4th narrow ledge and you have past the pit.
Continue left and meet your second deep pit. On the left side there are three
narrow ledges in a row, so you may exactly repeat what you just did to pass over
the first pit. In that case continue to the left and stand on a protruding ledge
overlooking the pool and see 3 pillars you would have to jump to.

That is what you would see if you cross the 2nd pit
But
that is now precisely what you should not do.
Rather than crossing the 2nd pit by the three narrow ledges stand in
front of the pit and look down.
There is a ramp going down by the edge. Slide down.

The ramp by the front edge of the second pit
Continue
straight past the first intersection and then go left when you see the
Kraken’s head. There are your three familiar jars.

The three jars

The rounded jar contains Treasure # 14
Return
close to the ramp from where you entered this pit and turn to a left passage. By
the torch turn left and end up in a room where you see how one of the Kraken’s
tentacles is trapped in a gear mechanism and apparently is immobile for that
reason.

The Kraken is suffering from a wounded tentacle
On your right notice a ring hanging on a pillar. Go stand in front of the ring avoiding the tentacle and grapple on it (B2). Keep pressing B1 to pull the pillar down so the Kraken’s tentacle is now freed.

Free the Kraken’s tentacle from the gears
Turn
left where you see some flat grey ledges and climb them. On top of the third
ledge there is a slope leading to a pole sticking out of the right wall.

Slope and pole
Slide
down and immediately press B4 to jump to the pole.
Press LAS left to let Lara hang near the golden head, face her to the narrow
ledge on the opposite wall, let here spin around (B1) and when on the highest
peak press B3 to let her jump to the narrow ledge.

The correct position to let Lara spin and jump
Shimmy
all the way left around the corner, pull up and notice a lever.

The lever
Pull
the lever (B1) and look at a cut scene how a walkway is gliding into the room.

A walkway glides into the room
The
walkway leads to the spiky platform above the Kraken’s head. Walk in that
direction. Position Lara to the right of the walkway in front of the hand of a
metal statue (not too close to the edge) and jump to its fingers.

The correct position for a jump
Jump
to the platform hanging from the chain and walk along the second walkway leading
to another room.

The second walkway
There
you will see another tentacle of the Kraken.

Another trapped tentacle
Walk
right avoiding the tentacle until you reach a second lever and the words Jump
to pillar tops to perch on them will appear in the right corner (don’t pay
any attention to that for now).
Do not pull the lever yet but notice a ring hanging in a metal wheel under a
gear.

Grapple on this ring
This
will pull the metal wheel out fitting into the upper gear. Loosen the grapple by
pressing B3.
The gear will start turning freeing the Kraken’s second tentacle (it will
growl loudly in agony). The walkway will also glide nearby.

Free the second tentacle
Follow
the walkway until you see a Norse statue and turn around along the left side
until you see its hand. Now turn left and notice another lever in a niche.

Meet the Norse statue

Reach the hand of the statue

Notice the lever in the alcove
Look more left and notice a narrow ledge on the opposite wall.

The correct position to jump to the narrow ledge
Now
jump to the narrow ledge, shimmy all around the corner and prepare for a
backward jump to the ledge behind you.

Jump backwards from here
Pull
the lever that will raise the spiked platform towards the ceiling.

The platform is pulled up towards the ceiling
You
will then see a very short close-up of a broken link of the chain and the words press
B10 to aim accurately will appear on the right side.
Aim at the broken link of each of both chains and shoot with you pistols.

Aim and shoot at the broken links
The
first chain will bring the spiked platform halfway down and the second will let
it fall onto the Kraken’s head and kill it also providing an exit to this pool
room.

The spikes crush the Kraken’s head
The
chains are gone now. Go to the spot where the right chain used to be and stand
in the alcove. You are going to get all the way up by jumping from wall to wall
(like in Prince of Persia).
Jump to one side of the wall and as soon as you touch it press B4 again
to jump higher up to the opposite wall. Press B3 again when you to touch the
wall.
The 3rd jump will let you hang from a narrow ledge.
Follow the sequence:

Position Lara where the chain used to be

First jump to the left wall

Immediately jump to the right wall

Immediately jump to the narrow ledge
Vault
up to the higher ledge and pull up. Go to the back of the room and find your
usual jars. Of course the rounded one contains your 15th Treasure.

Your usual jar collection

And there is Treasure # 15
Then
dive into the pool. Stand a meter from the edge and press LAS forward +
B4, immediately followed by the crouch button B3 to let Lara dive.
Swim around the pool. On your right in front of some stairs leading into the
water you will hear a chime: that’s another Treasure hidden in there.

Your 16th Treasure found!
Go
up the stairs, go left around the corner, climb up a high step and follow the
second staircase to your right. Turn left immediately (don’t go to the torch).
Follow left again and find your set of jars. Smash the rounded one to get
Treasure # 17.

You’re acquainted with the rounded jar now

Smash the thing and pick up your 17th
Treasure
Return
into the pool and swim around until you see a shiny object on the bottom
(somewhere in the middle). Dive and pick up your 18th Treasure.

Dive and pick up Treasure # 18
There
is another set of submerged stairs in this pool. Climb up, go to the far right
and spot your next set of jars.

Smash the rounded one

Take the 19th Treasure
Now
it’s about time to leave this rotten Kraken pool. The exit is behind the
corpse of the beast. Climb up the stairs and head towards the last lever.

This lever opens the door

The gates open up
Go
through the open doors and walk up the stairs. Turn right and ascend the second
staircase. Now you’re in front of a deep pit. Position Lara such that she’s
facing some kind of crumbled wall part to the left. Use LAS to direct Lara above
the door to the opposite side of the pit. It is some kind of wall climbing
sport. You have to climb in a circle around the door.

The correct position to jump

Climb around the door in the wall

Let go here
Turn
right to ascend the next staircases and get passed the second pit walking over a
narrow beam. (If Lara bends over use LAS to correct her and should she fall
she’ll hang from the beam, so simply pull her up)

Walk over this narrow beam
Crouch
under the opening, ascend the stairs on your right and a cut scene will start. A
gate will open and she will meet a giant statue of Thor, the Norse God of
Thunder. Then Lara will see a hand hanging in a blue aura.

Whatever are you doing here in
Niflheim?

According
to the Eddas, Thor needed special iron gauntlets to wield
his mighty hammer Mjolnir...
Could it be?
A
Journal Entry is unlocked.
