CROSSING THE ABYSS

 

Return to the ledge where you jumped to before and find a Health Potion on the right side (when facing the lower walkway). Walk left of the platform to the bridge and find 2 jars of which the rounded jar contains your Treasure #22.

Slowly walk over the bridge to the second Zombie and when reaching the fracture the Hammers will start swinging in a Cut Scene. They slowly demolish the middle part of the bridge until a larger part will bend in front of Lara’s feet. Also the Zombie is squeezed. She is sliding from what now turns into a slope and drops into the Abyss... stone dead.

So now you know what happens when Lara walks on the bridge... We most DO something. You’ll start again at the previous Checkpoint. Fight the first Zombie again and pick up the Health Potion (Treasure #22 remained in the Inventory).
When the white block bends and Lara slides from it press jump just before she drops into the Abyss and she will grab a narrow ledge on the opposite part of the bridge that is still standing there.
So repeat the sequence and try to grab the opposite narrow ledge.

Unfortunately, you cannot get up to this part of the bridge from the narrow ledge and so... a long and acrobatic climb will start.
When you hang from the ledge immediately shimmy around the corner with speed (repeatedly tapping LB) for the narrow ledges are crumbling fast and Lara would drop down again into the Abyss. At the left end quickly make a sideward jump to the narrow ledge on the next column which is stable. Phew! You can relax now for a while.

Shimmy past the middle of this ledge above a horizontal pole sticking out from below. You can see the pole going out over a sloping ledge. Careful when you drop down to the pole: it has become instable too. So you must quickly shimmy to the right and when the pole collapses you’ll drop to the slope.

Then Lara will start sliding down from the slope. Near the end press jump to land on a stable narrow beam. Another moment to relax.

Walk to the end of the narrow beam and jump to the narrow ledge on top. Jump to the narrow ledge above. Shimmy right to the opposite side of the pillar around the two corners until Lara is hanging above a horizontal narrow column (I call this type column rather than pole because of the diameter).

Let go to the narrow column

 

Turn around and walk to the opposite side. The column ends before it reaches a square pillar with a narrow ledge. Jump forward to the narrow ledge. Shimmy around the two corners (you can only go right seen from Lara’s back) until you reach a gap in the narrow ledge on the opposite side. You can’t side jump to the right part while hanging, so stand up on the ledge with your back to the wall.

Jump to the right (seen from your screen). Lara will then hang from the next section of the narrow ledge. Shimmy right around the corner until you’re lined up with a short narrow column below. But don’t drop to this column because you need to get higher up. As you notice in the screenshot the two square pillars connected by the short narrow column are very close. Close enough for a chimney jump. Stand up.

In fact the short narrow column is only there to prevent Lara from falling into the Abyss when she fails one of the jumps. That is why you have to perform your chimney jump exactly above the narrow column. If Lara drops to the column she can walk to the narrow ledge, jump up and start all over without dying into the Abyss. Very clever of the Design team!

Finally... the ping of a Checkpoint.

 

You are on the other side of the bridge now. Turn around and notice a narrow ledge that is sloping around the corner of a square pillar. Shimmy left to the opposite side past the first corner and you will have to stop at the second corner.

You’ll end up at this corner

 

Drop to the narrow ledge below but you’ll hang from its corner.
Shimmy right and drop to the lower narrow ledge.

Shimmy to the left corner. If you look to your left you can see a narrow ledge on the next pillar above a horizontal narrow column. You can’t side jump to the narrow ledge when hanging so better stand up with your back to the pillar.

Face the camera in front of Lara and jump sideward to the narrow ledge (that is to the left seen from the screen). Shimmy left and align with the narrow column below. Then drop to the column and turn around.

Walk to the other end. The narrow column is broken and is not touching the next pillar.

Jump to the narrow beam on the opposite pillar. Shimmy around the corners to the opposite side of the pillar (you can only go left as seen from the screen) until Lara is aligned with the narrow column below her.

Let go to the narrow column and turn around. Walk along the column until the end where it is broken and notice a support narrow column that is hanging 45 degrees pointing upwards from the pillar.


After dropping to the column turn around

At the end you’ll see the oblique narrow column

 

Jump to the top of the oblique column. From there jump to the narrow ledge above on the opposite pillar.

Shimmy left around the corner until Lara is above a short narrow column connecting two square pillars that are close. Look up to see that you can chimney jump to a higher level. So don’t let go to the narrow column below but stand up on the ledge and prepare a chimney jump.
Again, the short narrow column is only there for the same reason as with your previous chimney jump: to not ending up into the Abyss if one of your jumps fails.

Jump left-right-left-right to end up on a ledge – the flat top of a square pillar.

Face the T-shaped ledge (seen from here as such) and run/jump to the edge. Pull up when you hang from the ledge.

If you look well you can see a Health Potion lying at the end of the walkway straight in front of Lara. When you’re running over to the other end some parts of the walkway will collapse. Now grab the Health Potion in the first place. Turn around and notice that there is now a gap in this walkway.

Notice that Lara was looking to the right. Turn right and notice a giant spider in the passage behind the small gap, ready to attack. Use the Pistols to shoot it several times until the spider jumps to the ledge where Lara is standing. Just keep shooting until all of its fluids are being thrown around leaving an empty hull.
