OF THE DEAD
Thor’s
Hammer is one of the most powerful Weapons in human Mythology; strong enough
even to kill the immortal demigod, Jormungandr, as the world burns in the final
battle of Ragnarok. It isn’t power I seek, however, but answers. The truth
behind the Myths that these ancient devices inspired.

The text that you will always see with each restart within this Level
You
will be asked which of two outfits you would prefer for Lara in this Level: the Snow
Heavy or Snow Light?

Next
you will be asked which secondary Weapon you would like to switch to?

Which secondary Weapon?
I’ve
always had some good experience with the Shotgun
so I’ll select this one. It really doesn’t matter. You can change them any
time with your PDA.
You
will now watch an introductory cinematic sequence ONLY once, so I took a number
of screenshots and recorded the conversation.
Lara

Hey! You know that big expensive ship
of Amanda’s?
Lara:
The
one on the bottom of the
Mediterranean?
Zip:
Uh-huh, that one. She has a sister: the
Tisiphone, anchored off the coast of
Lara:
Excellent work, Zip. You’ve earned some
rest. I’ll take it from here.
Zip:
Be careful. And when you see Amanda, give
her my regards.
Lara
is now jumping over an enormous gap (with our controls we couldn’t even match
that) and arrives at the entrance of a tunnel. When she drives into the tunnel
she suddenly brakes like hell.

You
will take over the controls from this Checkpoint:

Turn
around and find two rounded jars and a Health Potion.
The
jars are empty so take the Health Potion.

Get
back on the bike (stationed further) and drive through the curves of the tunnel
until you reach a door decorated with a Skull.

Dismount
from the bike and hold your Magic Hands against the Skull. The carvings in the
whole wall will turn electric blue. Slide it to the right side and the two
asymmetric parts will open

Walk
through the door and a Cut Scene will show you an enormous tower (like a Chess
Queen) rising all from below within a crater having a corkscrew path
leading downwards.

A
bit farther it seems like a Zombie is standing on a block.

Is there a Zombie standing on that block?
If
you approach the Zombie will attack. Shoot him half dead with your Pistols when
he runs to Lara while backing off, then a few Karate kicks and the final Stomp
that blows him into pieces.

On
your right the path ends on top where you can notice a brown rounded jar, two
rectangular jars decorated with sea horses (they usually contain dust and air)
and a Health Potion. Take the Health Potion and break the rounded jar for your 1st
Treasure in this Level.

Your 1st Treasure
Have a short run around the crater ramp to find out how the path looks. You will notice there are broken parts on the inner side of the spiral.

When you meet three air-fill jars a second Zombie will attack. Keep backing up while shooting with the pistols until he drops down and give him the final stomp.

Now
that you’ve seen gaps on the right side of the spiral path, and that Zombies
may occur, return to the bike and drive down, avoiding the
broken parts on the inner side by staying to the left.
Soon
you will encounter a gap that spans the entire width of the path. Don’t run
over with high speed but drive along the left slope and boost with LB is needed.

When
more Zombies appear you may ride them over or just keep moving on and
concentrating on avoiding the obstacles on your way down. On this move (Screenshot) better drive over the Zombie and take the left curve to get over the
full gap.

With
one of the Zombies comes a difficult move. You must drive right of the rock in
front of a full and very long gap and speed up to the left slope. When you are
on the sloop boost up by several times pressing LB.

You’ve reached the bottom
The
camera view will show a closed Gate and Lara takes her camera to film the Runes
and translate.

Valhalla – Odin’s Hall, where the warriors who died in the battle came to feast and prepare to fight in the final battle of Ragnarok.

makes this Valgrind, the Gate of the Dead
“Old
is that Gate, and how to unbolt it, few now know.”
Hmmm.
Where are the Valkyries? When you need them?
Then
4 Viking Zombies surround Lara to prepare her for Walhalla. Better send
them to their
own Walhalla
with some final stomps.
Run
around to pick up some goodies. Left of the Gate is a rounded jar next to a
worthless jar. It contains Treasure #2.

Where
the wall stops near the bottom there is a Health Potion between two worthless
sea horse jars. Pick it up.

Follow
this wall left and turn right into a space under the spiral path. In the corner
is a rounded jar between two sea horse jars. The jar contains your Treasure #3.

You
must have noticed when running around there were a few stones lying on the
bottom floor that could be interacted with. Pick one up and carry it around the
tower until you see an Interaction sign appearing (yellow). That indicates the
presence of a receptacle where the stone has to fit in. Place the stone into the
receptacle and its carvings will become electric blue.

Repeat
with the two other stones.
Then
all the rings of the tower will separately start rotating.

There
are 4 carved panels on the bottom ring. Approach all of them. One can be touched
(you’ll see the yellow sign appearing). Lay you hands upon it and its carvings
will become electric blue looking like a lit Wurlitzer Juke Box from the 40’s. Turn the lower ring with
Thor’s magical Power to the right or left until it is correctly positioned.
You’ll know that when a Cut Scene will show you a beam of light coming from
above and going all the way to the end of the middle groove going from the Gate
to the tower.

Opposite the lowest part of the entrance wall is the lowest narrow ledge on the tower. Jump to it and wait for one the many narrow ledges on the second ring to arrive. Then jump to a narrow ledge.

Vault up to a higher narrow ledge on
the second ring
The
next ring has horizontal poles sticking out. Wait for one to arrive
and jump to it. Stand up and walk towards the ring (which is
turning simultaneously with the 2nd ring). Wait for a pole to arrive, and jump to it. The ring above has narrow
ledges.

Stand
on the ledge with your back to the wall. Wait for a horizontal pole on the next
ring to approach and jump to it.

Shimmy
to the middle of the pole. Stand up and Lara will automatically grab the upper
edge of the cylinder. Pull up. This ring is steady, it doesn’t rotate.

Pull up
First explore the ring’s top. Walk around and find a Health Potion in front of a carved panel.

Go
right of the panel (90 degrees) to another panel that you can touch turning it
electric blue. Repeat what you did last time: rotate the ring until the correct
position. That is when a Cut Scene will show you a second light beam shining on
the Gate’s groove to the tower down below.

Walk
around the ring to find a spot where four narrow ledges are lined up in one
vertical row and jump to the first one. Vault up three times until your reach
the fourth.

Shimmy
right to the next narrow ledge and prepare a side jump to the horizontal pole on
your right. Jump to the pole and hang from it.

Stand
on the pole and jump to a pole passing overhead.

on this pole and jump to a narrow ledge on the ring above when one is passing.

Jump
to a narrow ledge on the next ring. From the ledge jump to a pole on the higher
ring. Shimmy slightly past the middle of the pole to be aligned with the
cylindrical hull of the higher cylindrical ring.

Stand
up and face the ring. Jump to the edge and pull up.

As
usual the sea horse jar contains nothing. Walk around the top to find better
things. Ah! There is a correct jar. Smash it and take your Treasure #4.

the right side is a panel. Touch it and it will turn electric blue. Rotate the
ring until a third light beam reaches the groove to the Gate.

Now
you probably think this 4th climb is peanuts just like the three
before? Well... let’s find out.
Jump
to one of the narrow ledges from the top of the ring. The next rotating ring has 4 narrow
ledges on top of an elongated panel. Jump to one of them and vault
up to one of the many narrow ledges on the next ring.

Now grab one on the third ring
Stand
up on the ledge and jump to an overhead horizontal pole. You can see how a
number of vents are blowing steam on a regular basis. You must try to jump to
one of the narrow ledges of the next ring without being knocked off from the
pole by one of the steam vents. If this happens Lara will hang from one hand and
you must press yellow (Interact) to hang from both hands again. But you will
lose some Health though. As long as you hang from the pole you’re safe but you
will have to stand up for the jump.
Stand up when you see a steam vent approaching that stops emitting steam (for a while), walk to the ring and jump to one of the narrow ledges above.

Avoid
the steam vents to jump up to a pole, a narrow ledge and finally to the last pole.
Shimmy to the middle of the pole (a bit further though). Stand up to be safe from the vents and walk towards the
ring until you are lined up.

to the edge of the ring and pull up.

Walk
around to collect some goodies. Pick u p a Health Potion. The rounded jar
contains Treasure #5 and a bit further Treasure #6 is just lying on the floor.

Find
the panel you can rotate the ring with and turn it to the correct position.
