THE
MIDGARD SERPENT

THE SERPENT Pool
You’re
free to run and look around the pool. Where you picked up from last save you see
some rocks in front of you and a narrow ledge on top.
There
are three Serpent Statues sprawling water from their mouth: two on ground level
and one high up (causing the waterfall).
Turn
left to see a golden ring under the lower jaw of a water spitting Serpent
Statue. Jump to the flat rock right of the Statue, pull up and again notice the
ring and a golden horizontal pole hanging from the right side of the Serpent’s
upper jaw.

The ring and the pole
Run/jump to the pole from this ledge. Lara’s weight will lower the pole causing the Serpents head to close and stop the water flow.

Being fully closed the water flow is blocked
That will cause the pool to be drained.


The pool is draining fast
The
ring is meant to reopen the Serpent’s mouth causing the pool to refill and we
don’t want that for the moment, do we?
First
look to your right (turn the camera view) at the staircase and the entrance
ledge. You will notice a series of narrow ledges in the corner leading
downwards.

Narrow ledges are now visible
So turn around hanging from the pole and swing/jump back to the ledge.

Return
clockwise around the pool and in a corner you will notice a block with
eye-catching runes that you or may not have seen when you passed here before.
When approaching you will hear a chime sound like the one of the Treasures. Yet
when you examine the back of the block you will find nothing. You can’t move
it nor can you jump on it. Strange. Perhaps we’ll find out later, so let’s
keep this peculiar rock in mind.

Run further to the corner of the entrance ledge with the narrow ledges you just saw from the pole.

Hang
from the upper ledge and let go to two narrow ledges below. You will see another
pillar on the left with narrow ledges too.

Now
a nasty sequence will follow where speed is your main concern. Drop down
to the lowest narrow ledge which is crumbling fast by Lara’s weight. Quickly
press yellow (Interact) to hang from both hands and shimmy all the way to the
opposite side while the parts of the narrow ledge on your left are all falling
into the poisonous water. At the end prepare a jump to the narrow ledge on the
next pillar that is also crumbling fast, shimmy right and jump to the steady
rock behind the third pillar. Checkpoint.

Now
you see two flat rocks against the wall. Left are a number of narrow ledges at
different heights and right is a horizontal metal narrow beam sticking out of
the wall and supporting a perpendicular narrow beam.
Jump from the first to the second flat rock and turn right. Now you see that the beam construction has an U-shape.

Jump to the narrow beam, stand up and notice from here that the beam construction has an M-shape! The second beam on the right is broken and the first has a seemingly crumbling part in the middle.

Walk
right and at the crossing turn left and slowly walk until you feel the middle
part of the beam crumbling. Hang from the beam and shimmy a bit to your left.
Wait a while until the beam section drops into the water causing a gap.
An alternative crossing is shimmying to the right while repeatedly pressing LB (Sprint).

Slowly walk to the end of the beam, turn your camera behind Lara’s back and jump over the gap to the other part.

Continue to the next crossing, turn your camera behind Lara and jump over the gap.

Jump to the next section (2 views)
Walk straight-left right until the end of the protruding beam and let go to the floor.

At the end you can drop down to the floor
Go
right (your back to the pool) and two Zombies will emerge from the pool. Get
them into pieces with your Karate kicks.


Kick these Zombies into hell
When
you proceed two more will attack. This time combine a few shots from the Shotgun
with some stomps for a change.


You can fool around with them as you like
The
corner pillar has a narrow ledge. Stand facing it slightly to the left side and
jump to it. When you grabbed it shimmy left around the corner. Stand up.

Stand on the narrow ledge
You’re
standing between two close square pillars. Between the walls you can perform a
chimney jump. Three jumps will get you to a narrow ledge on the second pillar.
However, if you miss a jump you’ll drop dead into the pool and will have to
start allover with the two last Zombies!

Shimmy
left around the corner and at the end prepare for a backwards jump ending on a
narrow beam.

Walk
right at the section and drop down to the floor.

On
top of the black block lies a Health potion at your disposal.

Jump up the block and take the Health Potion
Turn
around and notice a golden ring hanging from the ceiling. Grapple on it and jump
forward from the rock. Hang from the rope and exactly face the opposite black
rock.

Swing
back and forth to get high enough for your jump to the opposite rock.

You may save your Game here too.
Looking
around from this rock there’s no way out except a golden ring that may help to
grapple on. The ring is hanging from what seems a pillar in the water next to
the enormous head of a half drown Statue.
Grapple on the ring and pull it towards you.

Pull the pillar towards you
It’s
not a pillar but some kind of wall attached to the Statue. It obviously has a
crevice in it. Loosen the grapple and jump to the crevice. Shimmy left until you
see a narrow ledge appearing behind Lara.

Shimmy to this correct position
Jump backwards to the narrow ledge. Shimmy left around the corners until she is hanging from the corner from where to jump to an opposite ledge. Already two Zombies constitute the welcome board.

Jump
backwards to the ledge and take care of the Zombies. During your fight you may
break the jar near the pillar that contains your Treasure #47. Check your PDA.

You will probably have picked up Treasure #47 during the fight
The Jar with the Treasure was standing next to the Health Potion which you may pick up now. Then two more Zombies will arrive. Use Karate to get rid of them. Now the coast is clear.

The
third pillar contains some narrow ledges. Jump to the grey block between the 2nd
and the 3rd pillar and from there to the first narrow ledge. Then
vault up to the second.

Vault up to the second narrow ledge
Shimmy
around the right corner and prepare for a jump to the horizontal pole sticking
out of the upper jar of the second water spawning Serpent’s head. Jump to the
Pole and Lara’s weight will lower its head to cut off the water flow, just
like she did with the first Serpent’s head.

The mouth will close and cut off the water flow
This
will cause the pool to drain more.


The pool is draining deeper
A
platform in the middle of the pool is now accessible. Turn around hanging from
the pole and notice narrow ledges on the neck of the serpent. The first one can
be reached by hanging from the grey block. Swing/jump back to the block.

from the block and shimmy to the upper narrow ledge on the Serpent’s neck.

Hang from the upper narrow ledge
Drop
down to the lower narrow ledge on the Serpent’s neck and from there to a black
ledge just above water level. Turn around and look at the central platform.

And then to the ledge above water level

Jump
to the platform and, yes... there arrives your new welcoming couple of Zombies
to fool around with.

Two inevitable Zombies

You’ve kicked one of the buggers into the pool
Run
around to explore the central platform for goodies and notice a Treasure lying
on the first of two blocks. Run to the corner from where you may jump straight
to the Treasure which is your #48.

Jump straight to the block and take Treasure #48
Jump
down to the lower ledge and jump back to the central platform.

Let go to the lower platform
You
will see a big screw in the center of the platform that has two golden rings
attached. This screw has to be turned clockwise into the floor.
Grapple
on the right ring and pull it towards you. Keep running around until you can’t
go no further.

Keep pulling the ring when always walking left

At this point you can’t go further
Then
grapple on the other ring and turn the screw further in until it is tight.

A
spectacular cut scene will show a whole transformation of the Statue ending up
in a door that will open.

The high Snake’s mouth will close and cut off the waterfall

A hidden door in his chest is revealed
Run
around the corner to find a pillar with a narrow ledge and jump to the ledge.
From here you already notice a Health Potion lying on top of the short pillar.
Jump to the top and pull up. Take the Health Potion.

Vault up to the top, pull up and take the Potion
Turn
around and jump to the narrow ledge on the Statue’s chest. Pull up. You’re
standing in front of the stairs leading to the hidden room!

Pull up
Ascend
the steps, enter the room and behold Thor’s
Belt. Take the object and watch how it disintegrates until only the Lock
Jewel remains.

Enter the room and go to the Altar

Lara sticks the Lock onto her belt
Now
Lara wears both Gauntlets and the Belt Lock and radiates an electric blue light
form the three attributes of Thor.
