THE SECOND MAYAN CALENDAR
[IMPORTANT
NOTE:
For
this sublevel I would definitely switch Gamepads. The Dual Logitech has no controls for the bike, so you must use the
keyboard. The final time ride is as good as impossible on the keypad.
The best Gamepad here is the Xbox 360
Controller for Windows. That also controls the bike]

The default settings of the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
This
is the room where the block fell through. There are two closed doors of which
the left upper part is missing creating a hole.

The pair of closed doors
Switch
to some heavy Weapons (e.g. the Assault Rifle) first. Jump up and crawl through
the hole.

Jump up

Crawl through the hole
From
here you can already see three looters waiting down on the open side.
Jump down and start shooting at them. Chase each of them separately behind the
rocks where they will constantly try to hide.

Start shooting them

Chase one by one if they’re hiding
Follow
the steps on the opposite side leading through the arch and the big hole in the
rock. Turn left and cross the pit on foot that leads to the bike.

Through the arch and the hole

Join the bike
Turn
around into the direction of the lower plaza and by a hard to see intersection
turn left. Continue until you see another log ramp you must cross by
accelerating from a fair distance.

Start here

Accelerate and jump
over
Phew! That went fine!
A
little further the path splits into two sections around a large grey rock.

The path splits around the rock
Take
the right since both paths converge anyway. After they joined turn sharp right
where the path goes under a rock overhang.
There the ruins will start.

The rock overhang
A
Panther will attack. The easiest way to get him down is under the rock from the
bike with a gun (press H).

Kill the Panther sitting on your bike
Follow
the curvy road until your reach the first Temple
ruins and stop. You see one looter patrolling on a height while a Panther
emerges from the bushes on the right side. Shoot this one from the bike too.

Stop here, notice the looter by the
Select
the Submachine Guns. Run down while targeting the looter higher up and lay him
down.

Get the looter from here
Drive
to the side where the Panther emerged and park the bike under a hole in the wall
but turn it around and place it farther sideward in order to get a fast escape
later on when jumping through the hole.

Drive to the hole and turn the bike around

The correct way to leave the bike
behind
Run
to the other side of the

Climb up the stairs on the other side

The jar in the corner contains your 27th
Treasure

Collect Treasure #27
The
other corner contains a Health Potion to grab.

A Health Potion in the other corner
Notice a wooden pole lying in front of the mechanism. Turn around the corner and get hold of a carved black block. Drag it a meter in front of the mechanism. Pick up the pole and jump to the block. Stick the pole into the hole, jump to it and hang from it facing the left side. (if this doesn’t work push the block until the wall, stick the pole in and pull the block back).

Grab the handholds of the block

Drag the block under the hole

Stick the pole into the hole
Lara’s
weight will pull the pole down along the vertical rail causing the left gate
above the dead looter to go up. Face the gate, swing/jump left and get through
the gate before it closes (the pole is rising again after Lara jumped from it).
You’re inside now and earned a Checkpoint. Save your Game here!

Lara’s weight is lowering the pole that raises the gate

Swing/jump left to the gate

Hurry through the gate
Go
to the opposite right corner and find your 28the Treasure in a jar.

Treasure #28 in this jar
Turn
left and run to the Second Mayan Calendar. Save the Game once again at this
Checkpoint:

At this Checkpoint also save the Game
Go
to the square in one of the sections of the outer ring and place the Skull you found
in the previous temple upon the square. That will raise the Skull statue.

Place the Skull upon the square in the outer ring

The Skull statue is now rising
Solving
the puzzle is similar to the first Mayan calendar. Before attempting the puzzle
memorize an escape road. When standing behind the Skull statue turn around, run
between the two pillars on your left and there is the hole where your bike is
standing below. Repeat this path until you know it by heart!

Let go from the Skull statue (if holding)

Turn around and run left between both
pillars

There is the hole where you
left your bike down below
Still
before solving the puzzle you must now memorize the path to the entrance
to the plaza on the opposite side.
Exercise first: jump through the hole, hop on your bike and follow the correct
path. First drive through some bushes and when passing the dead Panther the path
turns right. First drive very slowly. The road goes from left to right
(S-shapes) and splits by a tree on a rock, take the left side and immediately
follow left some 90 degrees. Another set of curves brings you to a rock where
the road splits again. Keep going all the way left and take another 90 degrees
to your left. This part is also going from left till right until a bit further
there is a log ramp to cross over a pit. Keep accelerating well. Pass another S
and then go immediately left to drive from the stairs under the Arch into the
plaza.
Backtrack to the hole and repeat this path several times up and down until you
know every turn, rock and corner by heart. Then keep on rehearsing,
always jutting up the speed of your bike. Eventually you should be able to ride
this track at maximum speed without ever bumping against a rock or getting
stopped by a side ramp you drove up by missing your turn.

Jump through the hole to the bike

Start the bike through some bushes
toward the road

Pass the Panther corpse and follow the
road going right

There are two splits of the road,
always take the left one

Past this bend you will meet the log
ramp

Pull up facing the ramp

Cross the deadly pit

Follow an S and at about this point
turn left to reach the steps under the arch

The steps under the arch leading to the
plaza
Now
reload your Game at the second Mayan Calendar where I urged you to make a manual
save.
First align the panel of the inner ring with that of the outer ring using the
central Jaguar statue until you hear a click (it will be a strong vibration with
the Xbox Controller).

Align the panels of inner and outer rings
Release the handle and grab the Skull statue to rotate it far as you can allowing the inner ring to fully rise so that the middle ring is disconnected from the mechanism.

Turn the outer ring counter clockwise until you feel the stop click
Now
align the panel of the inner ring with that of the middle ring with the Jaguar
statue.

Inner and middle panels aligned with the central tile
Finally
replace the outer ring for the complete alignment.

The alignment is complete
Now
a very spectacular Cut Scene will show an enormous Statue with two Dragon heads
rising from the floor, beams that rise with flame spitting Dragons and a ramp on
the opposite side going down from the staircases under the arch of the opposite
side of the plaza through a door under the Statue. You much reach this other
side before the door closes and exit the plaza.

The timed exit is being formed
So
now use your road lessons. Release the Skull statue (that will already start
closing the ramp), jump through the hole straight to your bike and drive like
hell to the arch of the plaza before the door becomes inaccessible. Drive at
maximum speed, don’t bump against anything or you won’t make it to the ramp.
If you even lose a second by – say having to reverse when you were stopped by
a rock or a road side – you will reach the ramp closed off and will have to
restart from the alignment of the second Mayan Calendar. The timing is really on
the edge!

Turn left under the arch and hurry from the stairs

Now to the ramp

Then from the ramp straight to the door

Under the door, right on time!
Then
a Cut scene will show you a deadly pit full of spikes behind the short tunnel
under the door. Lara is breaking full power and can just make right to the edge
and stop. She almost fell into that pit!

Lara has to break while the door behind her is already closing

The bike slips to the right...

...and ends up right in front of the
edge

Some more unfortunate Raiders were here
before
Lara
reads the Hieroglyphs on the opposite wall of the deadly pit:
Mayan Hieroglyphs...

..."The
Place of Fear”
It’s
definitely Xibalba. The
