CROFT MANOR – PROTECTED BY THE DEAD
Part
2
RETURNING TO THE MANOR
All
the levers on the central octagonal prism pillar are now functional because of
the fire burning in the Chapel.
The pillar has 4 Golden levers that can be pulled. First go the lever that is
right of the giant lever like seen on the screenshot and pull it. That will
illuminate two halves of the panels of stained glass illustrating the Angels
above. Pull it a second time. There will be a realignment of Golden panels and
the Angel in the left stained glass window is now fully illuminated. Also a beam
to the left of a door is lowering down.





Pull this lever twice
Turn
to the opposite panel of the octagonal prism and pull the lever. This will alter
the illumination of the Angels on the two opposite stained glass windows, but
not quit enough. Pull it a second time. Again more light will come through now.
Pull it a third time. This will fully illuminate both Angels and the beam on the
right side of the door will now also lower down.





Pull this lever thrice
Now the giant lever in the room is activated. Go and stand on the right handle but don’t push it yet.

First explore the path you will have to follow in the next timed sequence. Turn around running left past the octagonal prism and then turn right where you will see a number of narrow ledges on a square pillar right in front of the grilled wall. Remember: that is the way you will have to hurry to.

Return
to the lever and turn it 180 degrees that will fully open the doors, situated
above the giant lever between the two illuminated Angel stained window panels.

Look how the doors open up above you
When you let go from the giant lever the doors will slowly close again. Turn around and run/sprint past the octagonal prism to the narrow ledges you saw before. Jump up to 7 narrow ledges (you cannot reach the top of the pillar due to an overhanging top ledge) and shimmy left around the corner on the 7th narrow ledge.




Climbing up
Pull
up to the top of the pillar and notice a grapple ring hanging from the ceiling.
Grapple on the ring, jump forward through the closing doors and get Lara safe on
the other side.

Some
spiders to kill here, but we’re used to these creeps now.
Lara is standing in front of a staircase leading upwards. Run up the stairs, go
right-left-left and kill loads of spiders.
Then you will see a Health Pack and a jar. Take the Health Pack, and break the
jar for obtaining Treasure #9.

Turn
right to where you see a light bulb burning on the ceiling. Follow
left-left-left until you see a Treasure lying in the corner.

Take Treasure #10
Turn
around, go right and immediately left run up the second flight of stairs.
You’ll be entering a room where Cut Scene will start where you will find the
second Gauntlet of Thor on a table
and a voice recorder:

Lara’s
Father has left her a message:
“Hello,
Lara. Here in this room is everything we recovered from

Notice a box that has been broken open
They
were protecting one of Thor’s Gauntlets and a map showing where the rest of
the Treasures were hidden, all of which are necessary to open the way to Avalon.
The Norse believed this site contains a powerful Weapon, and to safeguard
against this possibility, I destroyed the original map.
I hope this was not a terrible mistake...

...But
if it was, I hope you and your mother can forgive me.
When
Lara puts down the Journal with the photo of the map something blue is shining
from her left hand. It is Thor’s other Gauntlet. But it will extinguish and
just leave two small bands on Lara’s hand. For the time being, that is.

After
the Cut Scene a Skeleton (is this a Thrall that Lara’s Father spoke about?) is
emerging from above coming down to attack Lara. Another one is attacking her
from behind too. Any powerful Weapon will do the job, but I selected the Shotgun
from the beginning so I switched to that and it worked fine.

When
they’re temporarily stunned jump on top of the Skeletons causing them to break
into pieces in a cloud of dust. Now they’re really dead.
Pick up a pole with 4 golden bands and leave it somewhere in sight – say to
the right side of the broken cage. It’s useless anyway (for as far as I know).
Take the Health Pack left of the broken cage.

One
of the pillars has electric blue Runes on it. A yellow hand appears, meaning
this pillar can be moved. Move to pillar to the right side of the broken cage.

Put your Gauntlet on the pillar

Pull/push it over the floor

Put it on the right side of the broken

Climb
the cage and jump to the top of the pillar where you pull up.

Jump on top of the pillar
Jump
to the next (higher) pillar and from there to the ledge. At the end you will
find a Treasure.

Collect Treasure #11 from the ledge
Return
to the pillar with the blue runes, drop down and this time shuffle it to the
left side of the broken cage. Pick up a Health Pack there. Jump from the cage to
the blue pillar.

Climb the blue pillar
Jump
to the low pillar on the right and from there to the protruding narrow beam on
the taller pillar. You already noticed a Treasure on the ledge on your right.
Hang from the beam and shimmy right around the pillar’s narrow ledge.

Press B3 to hang from the narrow beam

Shimmy right around the pillar
Stop
like seen on the screenshot and prepare for a backward jump to the opposite
ledge where a Treasure is lying. Pull up and take the Treasure.

Collect
your 12th Treasure
Jump
back to the narrow ledge on the pillar from where you jumped to this ledge.
Shimmy right to the next protruding narrow beam.

Pull
up and face a narrow ledge on the next pillar.
Shimmy to your right and jump backwards to the exit ledge.

...until this spot to take your

You’ve reached the exit ledge
When
Lara enters the tunnel the Gauntlet disappears again into her backpack.
That
didn’t last long. Ah well.
Follow
the tunnel going up left-right-left until you meet a jar on your right
containing Treasure #13 – your last one in this Level.

Proceed
upwards to a closed door with a mechanism on the right side.
Throw the lever and the door will first come forward and slide aside to the
left.

Now
remember that all of these previous adventures have happened in a week,
beginning from Level 1! Well now that week has passed when Lara was in the
Mediterranean and in
Remember how the tutorial Level CROFT MANOR was interrupted at the end when Jeb
was prevented by Winston from shooting Lara when she entered the main room of
the burning Manor?
From
this point on you MUST replay the entire initial CROFT MANOR Level
(follow the Walkthrough) until you are facing Jeb and Winston by the door again.
Now you will see the continuation of what really happened...
We’ll
pick up the story again where Lara drops from the walkway down to the main room.

Jeb:
Look out
Winston: Stop! It’s Lara!

Jeb: I know
Winston:
Wait!
Lara points two Pistols at Jeb: Drop
it, Zip, or I’ll drop you.
Zip:
What, so you can shoot me again?
Winston: It wasn’t Lara. Why would
she set fire to her own home?
Jeb: She got into the vault. It had to
be her.
So
now we understand that the explosion causing the fire in Croft Manor happened
when Lara was down in the Chapel. Jeb is convinced that Lara caused the fire
from the vault.
Lara:
Is that what happened here? Someone blew
open the vault?
Jeb: All right, say it wasn’t you.
Someone who looked a hell of a lot like you opened it using the Retina Scanner.
Lara: Impossible.

Jeb: Exactly!
Lara:
Then what happened?
Jeb: You...
She got away with Amanda’s Wraith Stone.
Lara (turning to Winston): Where’s
Alister?
I’m
going to the Tech Room watching the Security Video. You two get out before the
roof comes down.

Winston and Jeb leave the room to the garden
The
glass doors to the Technical Room are on your right but they won’t open.

No way to get in there
Go
to the right side of the fireplace, jump up where you will automatically stand
with your back against the wall from where you can jump up 3 more times. Shimmy
right around the corner. Drop down and land on the walkway below.
Turn around and follow left of the pillar and turn right. You will see a pole
protruding from the glass wall on your left.

Jump up to the lowest narrow ledge

Lara will automatically stand with her
back to the wall

Shimmy all around the corner to your
right

Shimmy to the far end

Let go to the walkway

Run left around the pillar and notice
the horizontal pole
Jump
to the pole. Pull up and jump to the top of the glass wall. Stand on the upper
beam and let go from the other side to a lower narrow beam in the glass wall and
then drop down to the floor.

A
large Cinematic will now start from the recordings of the Security Video:
Apparently from the other side of the glass wall a doppelganger
of Lara had set the place on fire and she is still there, slowly walking towards
Lara from the other side of the glass wall.

Lara sees a ghost appearing

Her Doppelganger!
The
doors open and Alister comes in from the other side. A struggle between the real
and the fake Lara goes on until the fake Lara shoots Alister down.
Lara tries to comfort Alister:

Alister, hold on
Alister
(dying): ...see
you ...in
...Avalon
The
whole Manor is on fire now:

The fire is rapidly spreading
Lara carries the dying Alister out of the hell into the garden and puts him down there. Jeb and Winston are joining her there.

Winston declares Alister dead. Ahh.
No!
Jeb
(to Lara): What the hell was that thing?
Lara: I’ve only seen something like
it once before – a doppelganger that Natla sent after me years ago, but that
one didn’t have a mind of its own.
[NOTE:] This occurred in Tomb
Raider: Anniversary. See my previous Walkthrough on that.

Winston: But how could Natla have sent
it if she’s Amanda’s prisoner?
Lara:
They’re a team of sorts now. Amanda and
Natla, her pet Atlantean God.
Jeb: What are we going to do now?

After I Deal with the Authorities,
I’m going to
Jeb:
What?! Alister’s dead! And ...it’s
just ...business
as usual?!
Lara: I need Thor’s Belt to get his
Hammer, and I need the Hammer to kill a God.
You
will now get the announcement of Level 4.
