Level 3
CROFT MANOR – PROTECTED BY THE DEAD

Part 1
THE CRYPT CHAPEL

Each time you restart you will see this opening

You will be asked first what outfit Lara would prefer. As for myself, I selected the Casual outfit (covering Lara up from top till toes). After that choice you will be asked what second Weapon you would prefer. Well, this really doesn’t matter: choose any because you can change it any time. So I took the Shotgun.

We start in the computer office where Jeb, the Nerd Alistair, the Butler Winston and Lara are gathered together. Winston apologizes for not having tended the Crypt recently.

The Office

Winston opens the door to the Crypt

Alistair: Why didn’t you ever tell us this was down here? Hell, I wish I still don’t know. Ya know what? I’ll wait up here.

What a coward. But he is joining them anyway.
Lara: I did warn you that playing your music so loud could wake the dead.
They are descending the staircase to the dark Crypt.

Damn, this is creepy...

Alistair and Jeb are carrying a metal cage.
Alistair: What makes you think it’s here?

Lara lightens one of the tombs with her flare:

Father signing his name with all three initial was a clear reference to my Grandfather

Lara finds a button that will push the tomb aside.
Lara: Light Please.

The tomb is pushed aside

Lara: Ah, it seems my Father was full of surprises.

And now it’s your turn to control Lara

Lara is standing in front of a tunnel filled with spider webs. Break the jar on your right and collect your 1st Artifact of this Level (1/13).

Break the jar containing Artifact #1

Your 1st Artifact is right here

Step up 3 ledges and break the jar on your right containing Artifact #2.

This jar contains Artifact #2

When Lara approaches the opposite pillar she will grab onto it. Climb up and perch on it. A message will tell you “Press B3 to safely drop down and grab the pillar”. Well thanks for the message but we surely won’t need that for the time being.
Face the wooden ledge and jump to it.

Grab onto the pillar

Jump to the wooden ledge

Turn left, climb a ledge, left-right and go down to the wooden scaffolding overlooking the ruins of an underground Chapel.

This used to be a Chapel once

Keep standing there for a while and take your Pistols to shoot nasty attacking bats until they’re all food for the rats.
In the niche on your left you can see a Treasure lying there.
Drop down to the lower scaffolding. Turn left and notice an L-shaped narrow beam. Jump to it, turn right and walk to the corner. Jump to the opposite niche and pull up. Kill the spiders coming from the wall before collecting Treasure #3.

The lower scaffolding

Jump to the opposite narrow beam

Walk to the corner

Jump to the alcove with Treasure #3

You can see a horizontal pole with golden bands sticking out of the left wall. Jump to the pole from the right side of the ledge (which is closer to the pole).

Run/jump to the pole from here

Shimmy all the way left and swing/jump to the opposite ledge. Turn left and take your 4th Treasure.

Treasure #4 is on the opposite ledge of the pole

Drop dead from the ledge to the Chapel’s floor. This may sound a bit harsh but you will resurrect on the lower scaffolding anyway (the previous Checkpoint) with the 4 Treasures in your Inventory. Drop down to the lower narrow beam and then to the floor. Shoot all the bats and spiders that attack you. They keep coming so take your time.
Explore the floor. On one of  the steps a jar contains Treasure #5.

The jar with Treasure #5

Walk up the stairs behind the Angel Statue and notice a pressure pad in front of a pair of grilled bars. Standing on the pressure pad will open a door on your left and your right, and lit a fire, but when you leave the magic will all be gone. A “Classic” in Tomb Raider Games. So you know what to do: find a weight that keeps the pressure pad down.

Standing on the pressure pad will open the doors and lit a fire

Go down from the stairs facing the Angel Statue. Turn around and notice a closed door on the opposite side.

The closed door

Left and right are scaffoldings and structures connected by narrow beams. The structure on the right of the door is where you came down to this Chapel. Climb up the small set of stairs, turn left and jump to the lowest platform of the construction left of the door.
Turn your back to the wall and look a bit to your right. There is a double higher beam. Run/jump to it and stand on it.
Turn left and walk to the pole that is supporting a higher double narrow beam on its left end. Jump up to the corner and shimmy right around two corners until the other end of the beam. Pull up.

Run/jump to the double beam from this position on the platform

Hang from the narrow beam and pull up

Walk to the pole supporting a higher double narrow beam

Jump up to the corner

Shimmy all the way to the other end around two corners

Pull up here

Face the opposite ledge with the Health Pack on it, jump to the edge and pull up. Recover the Health Pack.
You will also see 3 horizontal poles wild golden bands sticking out from the right wall.

Jump to the ledge

Pull up

Take the Health Pack

Now jump to the first pole. Stand up and jump to the second and higher pole. You can hang from that one and swing/jump to the third pole. Hang from it and swing/jump to the opposite ledge.

Standing up on the first pole

Hanging from the second pole

Landing on the ledge through the third pole

Go inside and kill the spiders. Turn right and spot a horizontal pole sticking out of the right wall. Jump up to it. Stand on it facing the wall and vault up to a higher narrow ledge. From here you can see a Treasure lying on the upper ledge. Shimmy left (or right) and jump up to a higher narrow ledge Press B4 + LAS up). Pull up and take Treasure #6.

Jump up to this pole

Stand on the pole

Vault up to the narrow ledge

You can pull up from the right side (like shown here)

Backtrack the same way and when hanging from the pole again you will notice the yellow hand meaning you can pull this pole out and take it along. I would advise you to not to extract the pole right now, but remember the place to return later on. Turn right and before breaking the jar containing Treasure #7 kill some spiders here.

You can take the pole out, but better wait a while

This jar contains Treasure #7

Turn right from the next set of stairs. Now you can go either left or right. Go left first and when you reach the Health Pack in the corner more spiders will attack.

Take this Health Pack standing in the corner

Now return upstairs to the pole, jump to it and pull it out.

You have retrieved the pole

Return downstairs (the two sets of stairs). Then on your right there is this strange box lying on the floor.
Look behind the box through a grating where a Relic is lying!

How are we going to get that into the pocket?

Drop the pole here (Press B3) as a beacon.

Drop the pole here temporarily

Pick up the block and carry it all the way left along the passage and drop it onto the pressure pad right around the corner. That will keep the grilled door open as long as Lara is standing on it with her heavy (!) weight. When you leave the pressure pad the door will close. Hence, you need a second weight (as heavy as Lara is) to keep the damned door open.

Drop that block onto the pressure pad

Return past the Relic and the pole you left there. Turn left and go all the way to the end until you reach a room with a lever. Turn around and you will find another one of these blocks. Pick it up and carry it onto the pressure pad. Now the door will stay open.

The room with the giant lever

A second block to carry to the pressure pad

The two blocks will keep the door open

Return to where you left the pole. The couple of blocks have also opened the small gate to the Relic. Duck to go inside and take the precious Relic. Your Stamina meter will now permanently increase for a third time.

Your 3rd Relic!

Return to the pressure pad and stand on it. Throw each of both blocks through the open door (Pick one up and Press B8). When the door closes sprint/roll under it to reach the room with the big lever before it closes.

You’ve made it to the lever room with the two blocks

The two blocks are now lying on the inner side before the closed door.
Carry each of the two blocks onto the pressure pad behind the Angel’s Statue you stood up before and keep the doors open and the fire burning.

The doors stay open and the fireplace keeps lit

Return through the door you came from and pick up the pole you left where you found the Relic. Turn left and enter the room with the giant lever. Continue straightforward until you see another block where you will be attacked by an amount of spiders.
Just before the block there are stairs on your right leading upwards. Turn right and follow more stairs upwards. On top you will see a 4th such block but then you will be attacked by numerous of bats. Drop the pole and kill the bats.
Pick up the pole again and stick it into the hole in the wall behind the block.
Jump to the pole, stand up and vault up to an alcove containing a Treasure (just like you did with Treasure #6). Pull up and take Treasure #8.

The hole where to insert your pole

Return from both sets of stairs and turn left into the room with the lever.
