Sublevel 2: City of Vilcabamba
You
hear growling coming from up the staircase when you slowly step up.
Now
a huge bear runs down from above. Use the following tactics:
Press
B5 to lock onto enemies to perform special maneuvers like ADRENALINE DODGE and
HEAD SHOT.
When
an enraged enemy lunges and the screen blurs, move in any direction and press B3
to perform an ADRENALINE DODGE. Keep your distance in order to execute a
successful dodge.
When
the bear is dead (a new skin rug for your private quarters?) run up the stairs.
Then run left then right and jump to a vertical column in the front section of a
pit.

Hanging on the first vertical column
Slide
all the way down and press B4 to jump off. With your back facing the column walk
behind the rock and turn left. Proceed until you find a Small Medipack.
The
second column has a stone pedestal and you can’t jump to that. In between both
columns is a small ramp. Stand on the top of the ramp and turn right. Walk to
the wall and jump to the ledge. Make a left lateral jump past the hanging plants
to the other ledge.

Hanging from this ledge

Prepare for the side jump
Move
up to the higher ledge and stand in line with the second column. Jump backwards
and grab it.
Climb
the column until you are at the height of the opposite ledge and turn your back
to it. Only press B4 to jump to it. Follow a passage through open doors and reach
the City of
Turn
left and see a dead village.
Descend
the stairs and observe an Artifact hanging by a waterfall on the far side.
Descend the next steps, turn left and a red circle will appear around a wolf.
You can easily shoot him and then a second one will appear. Get this one down
too.
Descend
a last staircase and observe a pillar on a pedestal on the opposite side that
leads to a high ledge, so you cannot jump to this pillar either. We may have to
try that later with some moveable object?
First
head for the small square pool. From behind the left house with the open door a
bear will run to you. Run backwards up the stairs and keeping shooting until
he’s gone (he won’t climb the stairs).
There
is nothing to find in the open house. In between the two closed larger houses a
small path leads to a closed door with a lock on the side that needs a key.
We’ll have to find that key.
Dive into the pool for an exploration. Once you’re in the pool you can’t get out anymore. Somewhere under the surface is a tunnel entrance. Go to the surface again.

The tunnel in the pool
The
tunnel entrance is on the side of the alley with the locked door. Face the alley
between the two houses, and from the surface you can see the tunnel’s
entrance. Dive in and immediately enter the tunnel. Keep repeatedly pressing B1
to accelerate because it is a rather long swim.
After
a number of curves you will enter a flooded cellar with a lever at the far wall.
Immediately pull the lever that will open the grated exit above. Get the hell
upstairs before you choke to death!

The lever opens an exit above
Lara
will jump out of the water and end up inside a big hut. Run around and notice a
door with a lever on the left. Pull the lever and the door will lower down
giving access to the square with the pool again. CHECKPOINT.
Run
up the stairs inside and jump over the gap to the next room. Turn around, look
down and what do you see? You’ve jumped over the alley between the two houses
with the door and the lock! So now you’re in the other house.

You’ve actually jumped from house to house
Run
along an unstable wooden walkway that will collapse if you didn’t know beforehand.
Otherwise you could have made a run/jump to the opposite alcove.
Once in the alcove notice a crate on your left.

The crate inside the passage
Pull
the crate out and maneuver it to the front of the alcove. Jump from the crate into
the alcove and find a Small Medipack. Jump down and notice all the skulls on
spears by the walls. This must have been a village straight from the film Apocalypse
Now.

Cannibals!
Turn
around from that wall and walk to a broad wooden door. A red target will appear
around the middle part. Shoot it by pressing B6 and both doors will open also
giving access to the central plaza again.
Follow
the passage where the crate was blocking the following room and notice something
flickering. Take it.

You’ve found the Shotgun Ammo
But
now what about the Shotgun itself? Turn left and pick up the Village Key.

You’ve found the Village Key
CHECKPOINT
when you turn back. From the entrance you will notice an attic made out of
wooden beams. Jump, but you can’t reach it. You will need something to jump
from. Hence, move the crate from the previous room through the passage until it
is under the beams and jump from the crate to the attic’s edge. On your left side
you can pick up a Small Medipack and some more Shotgun Ammo.
Now
it’s time to leave this house. Remember that column on the stone pedestal Lara
couldn’t reach? Push the crate outside through the open doors all the way to
the front of the pedestal. Passing the pool near the column you’ll get a
CHECKPOINT.
Jump
from the crate to the column and climb all the way up. Turn your back to the
ledge and jump to it. Immediately shimmy to the left (press B1 repeatedly to go
faster), and quickly pull up before two very aggressive big bats will attack
you. Shoot them before they get you.
Face
the pole, jump to it (by pressing forward and pressing/holding B4) and
swing/jump to the opposite higher ledge. CHECKPOINT when Lara hangs from the
ledge.
Pull
up and notice a blue grapple hook on your left. Grapple jump and keep hanging
from the hook and face the opposite ledge.

The blue grapple ring and the opposite ledge

Face the ledge
Now
start swinging back and forth and when you’ve reached the highest point press B4
to let go and grab the ledge. Should you miss and slide down (harmlessly)
don’t climb up all the way again, but simply load the game from the savegame of
your latest checkpoint. Also should you hang by one hand and see a yellow
exclamation sign, you have to push B1 to hang on both hands – if not, Lara
would soon drop down.
Don’t
pull up, but shimmy to the far left where you will make a left side jump to the
first of two successive poles.

Side jump to the first pole
Swing/jump
to the second pole and to the ledge with the waterfall. Immediately shoot the
attacking bat when you land. Pick up the Artifact. You may then be attacked by a
second bat.

Now you’ve reached that Artifact
Do
not jump into the pool because the waterfall will drag you into the lower pool
and then you must swim all the way through the tunnel again.

Avoid the water flow
Jump
over the pool to the other side (close to the narrow part) where you will notice
a large thatched roof. Jump to the roof.

Jump from this position
When
touching the roof Lara will slide down to end safely on ground level.

Sliding down from the roof
Walk
around the pool for another CHECKPOINT.
Now
there is one last thing to do in this village of dead Zombies: opening the
mysterious door with your Village Key.
Run
to the door and insert the Key in the lock. The door will slide down causing a
CHECKPOINT. You will see an Inca statue and hear howling in the background. Step
slowly in and shoot both wolves that run to Lara.
When
you walk around the central statue a third wolf will attack.
Enter
a huge cave which offers a beautiful sight apart from the inevitable skulls on
the spears.

Something to look at...
In
the middle front of the Temple front there is large closed gate with an opening on each side. Ascend the
stairs (CHECKPOINT) and enter either opening, say the one on the right side.
Go
in and ascend the staircase on your right (CHECKPOINT). Jump into the large pool
and examine it to see if you find anything of interest in there. Yes! There is a Small
Medipack on the bottom.

The dive was not in vain
Swim to the door and get out. Follow the staircase all the way to your left, and jump to the corner ledge.

Snapshot of Lara’s jump
Vault
to the higher narrow ledge, shimmy left and vault to the narrow ledge above.
Shimmy all the way left and side jump to the decorated narrow ledge in the
corner.
Shimmy
all the way left around the corner and pull up to the platform of another
entrance.
Look
up and notice how complicated this room is. Go out and up to the ramp on your
right. Turn right to the next ascending ramp. Turn right to a third ramp where two
bats will attack you. Take care of them. Now you end on a ledge above the
pool. Jump to the opposite ledge and run through the opening to see a sort of
mechanism. Jump to the first thick beam that will then rotate 90 degrees. The
camera will show you how the lock of one gate is opened underneath Lara’s
hanging position.

Jump to the beam to unlock the
right gate
Let
go between the two columns, to the rooftop of the gates. Go to the ledge above
the left opening, let go to the ledge below and then to the floor.

The ledges above the left
opening
Enter
the left opening which isn’t exactly a mirror image of the right side.
CHECKPOINT. There’s nothing on the floor of this pool. Ascend the stairs and
at the end on your right you’ll have to jump to the sculptured ledge in the
corner. Pull up and jump slightly to the right to a higher narrow ledge.

Jump from this position
Shimmy
right and side jump to the next ledge. Again shimmy right until the corner and
jump backwards to the lower platform past the three bas-reliefs. You will
probably end up hanging on one hand so quickly press B1 and shimmy to the right
corner before pulling up, or else you’ll tumble back into the pool and then
you can start all over.

To the lower platform
Now
basically this is the mirror image of the previous ramps. Meet your bats up
above, jump to the next ledge and then to the second thick pole.
The
lock of the left gate will unlock and both gates will open up. CHECKPOINT.

How the gates are opened
Again
let go between the two columns and go down the same way you did before.
Enter
the passage through the gates. Follow right then left and get a CHECKPOINT when
you approach the pit.
Observe
a ledge with a ramp going down and a pole opposite it. This setup seems
familiar. Ready to go? Jump to the corner ledge, slide off a bit and jump to the
snake headed pole. Now look downstairs where some ammo is lying.

Ammo on the floor
So
instead of a swing/jump to the opposite ledge let go to the floor and kill the
wolf that comes out of the blue. Pick up the Shotgun Ammo. Turn left to spot a
crate in a niche. Pull it out and maneuver it to the left under the rim where you
started your jump to the ledge with the ramp.
Jump
to the ledge and to the platform where you just started your moves to reach the
pole. Repeat it all over and this time swing/jump to the middle section. Lara
can balance on the tops of the thin, vertical structures. Jump towards the column to
perch on top and jump from there to the opposite ledge.

If you loose your balance here press B1
Go
left until the edge of the next pit and jump to the narrow ledge on the opposite
wall. Let go to a flat rock and from there to the floor.
Now
run to the opposite side and jump to a flat rock in the right corner. Shimmy
right and vault up one ledge higher. Shimmy right until you are in line with the
pole that sticks out of the wooden column.

Shimmy along this narrow ledge
Jump backwards to the pole and swing/jump to the opposite narrow ledge.

Get to this ledge
Shimmy
left and vault up to the higher narrow ledge.

The highest ledge
Shimmy around the corner hanging from a ledge where darts are being shot (again!).

Notice a dart emerging from the left opening
Pull
up when a triple goes into the right holes and quickly run past the
shooters. Now turn around and avoid the arrows again: wait until three have been
shot, then run/jump to the pole. When perching there jump to the left side of
the opposite ledge.

Head left when you jump to the ledge
Turn
right and go through an opening. Run and turn right until the image is
getting blurry and you hear the sound of a waterfall. Go left towards the
waterfall and end the Sublevel.

The window at the Sublevel’s end
Save
your progress.
Now let's go to Peru Sublevel 3: The Lost Valley, Part 1 - The Machine
