1: The Catacombs
Jump into the square pool facing the statue.

Jump in from this spot
Dive all the way down and swim straight through the tunnel in
front of you (always keep pushing repeatedly B1 during this tunnel experience).
Then right-left-right until you see light coming from above. Swim
upward to an air bubble in a cave.

Swim up into the cave
You will notice a half submerged archway in front of you. Turn left so that the arch is on your right side and float near the back wall. Position the view behind Lara’s back. Then dive into the hole you just emerged from.

Dive into the hole from this point
Go down again, swim straight, then right and at the end go up
again.

Swim up and end in the pool of a room
CHECKPOINT. Get out where you see a crate blocking an entrance
between two columns on either side. You hear a chirping sound from behind the
crate. Push the crate inside the next room and immediately shoot a rat.
You’ll notice a lever under an archway on the left wall that is
quite high. That’s where this crate comes in handy. Push it under the lever,
jump up and pull it.
A trap door on the opposite corner will slide open.

Drop down and kill two more attacking rats. Then leave this
basement through the exit (CHECKPOINT) and hear a wicked voice saying:
Don’t
worry Lara, the water is very refreshing. Ha-Ha. Hmmm...
must be Pierre
again according to the froggy accent.
This impressive room looks like the Catacombs of Byzantium (now:
Istanbul).
Continue on the walkway to where it is broken in front of a curved
bridge leading left to an alcove with a movable pedestal with two handles.
Look down from here to see the water level below, another such
pedestal and a horizontal pole on your right. In the back something shiny is
lying on top of a broken archway.

Let’s find out what this movable pedestal does. Jump over the
gap, cross the bridge and turn the pedestal.

The pedestal raises the water level
(CHECKPOINT). Dive and have a look. 2 crocodiles will attack you so get up quickly and try to shoot them from a ledge. However they immediately hide too deep so you can’t reach them.

Well at least now you know there are some big crocs in the water.
So better lower the water level back to what it was by turning the pedestal in
the other direction (CHECKPOINT).
For now on there are more interesting things to do here on this
upper level so head for the pole (CHECKPOINT). Higher up the wall there is a
snake-shaped grapple ring. Swing/jump/grapple and hang from the chain, start
swinging and reach a narrow ledge on the wall. Notice another one in the left
corner and also a snake-shaped grapple ring on your left. Shimmy around the
corner from where you will see Ammo below.

Let go and add some Dual 50 Caliber Pistol Shells to your
Inventory. Jump to the narrow ledge on the right side of this alcove. Shimmy
right and side jump to a narrow ledge on a thick pillar on your right.

To the pillar
Vault up to the pillar’s top, turn right and find some new ammo

You’ve found the Mini SMG
Ammo
Look in your inventory and find 25 Shells of this type. Turn
around and jump from the left corner to the narrow ledge you landed after the
grapple jump from the pole.

Shimmy around the corner again and this time jump backward to the
narrow ledge on the opposite wall. Shimmy left around the corner and side
grapple jump so that you will hang from the 2nd snake shaped grapple
ring. Swing up and down and jump to the ledge in the corner.

Turn left and jump across the gap. Then left-right to jump over
another gap and right-left over a 3rd gap. In the corner you’ll
find some Shotgun Ammo.
Turn left and jump to the pole. Swing/jump to the 2nd
pole and from there land on a big semi-circular alcove.
On the opposite end push a crate off the ledge causing a
CHECKPOINT. Look down where you will see it lying on a ledge near the pool.

Turn slightly right and jump to the narrow ledge on the wall and
vault up one higher.

Shimmy all the way left and side jump to the left pole and
swing/jump to another semi-circular alcove.
Cross the ledge and jump to the narrow ledge slightly right on the
wall. Shimmy around the left corner and side jump from pole to pole on your left
until you reach long narrow ledge in the corner.

To the narrow ledge in the corner
Shimmy left around the corner and jump backward to the narrow
ledge in the opposite corner. Shimmy left around the corner and pull up to
another semi-circular alcove with a crate.

Push the crate off the edge.

From here you see the 2 crocs in the water but you still can’t
reach them with your guns. You almost made a full turn around the upper level.
Proceed along the walkway in front of the alcove and run/jump to
the top of the broken archway. Turn right and see these two damned crocs waiting
for you again in the pool down below.
You also see the crate lying down below on a ledge near the pool.
So when you dive in you have to find a quick way to escape from the crocs by
climbing to a nearby ledge.
Dive in and immediately swim around the pillar to climb to the
ledge with the crate. Shoot both crocs from this ledge, it will take several
shots but when they’re ready for purses you will see them dropping down to the
bottom.

Dive in from the position in the second screenshot and
get rid of the crocs
Turn around and run to the right corner of the ledge where you
will find a Small Medipack. Then push the crate into the water.

Turn right and run to the small ramp from where you can jump to
the narrow ledge on the left. Pull up and hop down from the other side. This is
the ledge where you saw the lower pedestal from above. Turn it and watch how the
water is completely drained. (CHECKPOINT)

Continue to the right along the wall and pick up a Large Medipack on the left (right in front of a fallen layered rock). Go left and climb behind the wall to a T-shaped ledge with a protruding path that goes to a pillar with two ramps on the side going down and ending before grilled bars.

Climb the opposite wall and see a crocodile sitting on dry land
behind the wall.

Shoot the 3rd croc from this low wall
Hop down going left and passing a ladder on a pedestal. You’ll
meet the first of both crates you pushed down. Push it further down below.

Push the crate further down
Turn right and jump to the triangular ledge in the corner. Pull up
and jump to the low wall. Hop down and go left. Hang from the ledge above a pole
and let go to drop to the pole. Face the wall with only one narrow ledge and
swing jump to the ledge. Drop down from the ledge to the floor.

How to get to the floor
Run around here and notice two pressure pads and two closed gates
on the floor. The two crates are standing here too.
Push each crate onto one of them. One of the floor gates will
open, freeing a square piece of wood with two golden rings and the other will
lower the barred gate in front the “T” ledge you just found above. You’ll
get the Artifact and Ammo under the other floor gate later on.

Find a Small Medipack behind some fallen blocks in one of the
corners.

The Small Medipack also turns your attention to the blocks
Now you’re finished here so climb up again to the middle level
from the blocks by the Medipack. When
standing in front of the ramp (on the second block) look up to see a
snake-shaped grapple hook high up on your left.
Jump to the slope, grapple jump and hang from your chain. Swing
and end up on a black block in the corner with a (useless) slope.

How to reach the block in the corner
Jump to the narrow ledge, shimmy left around the corner and vault
up to a higher narrow ledge.

Start here to reach the higher ledge
Jump backward to the pole you earlier used to come down.
Swing/jump again to the opposite narrow ledge, but this time don’t drop back
to the floor, but shimmy all around to the other side and jump backward to
another pole. Swing/jump to the opposite narrow ledge and shimmy all the way
around until you grab a stone wall.

Reach the stone structure in the corner
Pull up, turn left and position Lara in the corner for a jump to
the opposite ledge, and pull up.

Start your jump from here
Jump to the narrow ledge, pull up and climb the stone blocks. Turn
right and jump to a ledge at the middle level.

Reach the middle level
Run around left (you’ve done this before) until you reach the
pedestal. Grab a handle and rotate the pedestal back again so that the water in
the pool rises to its previous level. CHECKPOINT.
Face the pool and notice that the piece of wood from the floor
rose with the water turning into a raft with golden grapple rings.

Since you lowered the gates (those that were closing off the dual
ramps) you can swim to the T-shaped ledge behind the vertical column and pull
up.
When standing on the left side of the wide platform you can spot
the raft floating behind the pillar. Hop over the left wall and hop up again
behind the dividing rock. From here you can grapple on the raft and pull it
closer to the ledge.
Go back to the big ledge and pull the raft to the ledge

How to get the raft touching the ledge
Trick: return to the pedestal and rotate it to drain the water
(CHECKPOINT) and then rotate it again to bring back the level in order to create
a new CHECKPOINT. Save this
Checkpoint.
The wall on the left of the pedestal (from where you just jumped
down from) is too high to jump to. Notice a curved slope – in fact being a
flipped piece of arch. Run up and jump to the wall from there and return to the
opposite side.

Left of Lara is a ramp (also a flipped piece of arch) leading up
to a narrow ledge in the column. Run up and jump to the narrow ledge. Vault up
to the higher narrow ledge and shimmy around the left corner to position
yourself right under a bar. Jump up to grab the bar, shimmy to the right and
swing/jump to the opposite ledge in the corner. Pull up and see an alcove on
your right. Hop in and jump to a ledge where you pull up. Go stand in a corner
overlooking a pillar with a square shaped ledge in its corner. Run/jump and keep
holding B1 to reach the ledge. Pull up, jump up to the higher narrow ledge and
shimmy all the way around the corners to your left side. On the opposite side
vault up to the higher narrow ledge and pull up.

How to reach the upper level
Turn right and return to the pedestal of your first experiment
with the rising water level. Turn it so that the water will rise to its maximal
level. CHECKPOINT.
Jump into the pool and swim around for exploring the underwater
walls and pillars. When you need air swim up again and then dive in again to
continue your survey. You must have found a few interesting spots in there.
Swim up and cross the curved bridge from you will jump into the
water again. Swim straight for a while and then turn around. Look between the
two underwater pillars to notice a hole in the wall on the opposite side. Dive
in and swim to the hole (the largest of the three) that has an opening on the
upper part of the grating. Swim forward to the ledge and pull up. Jump into the
water and swim straight to the opening in the grate of the hole. Dive down into
this underwater alcove and pick up a Large Medipack. Immediately return through
the hole and get to the surface.

Swim towards the fountain in the alcove passing a broad gap
between two walkways and proceed right of the large protruding walkway. You’ll
see some shiny thing on your right under water. Swim to the right side of the
large protruding ledge and dive in. Swim through a hole and find some Shotgun
Ammo.

How to find the Shotgun Ammo
Now go to the left part of the smaller protruding walkway near the
left corner of the wall from where you will notice a shiny object under water.
Dive in and this time pass through the bottom opening in the grated fence of the
hole. Go down into the alcove and take a Small Medipack.

How to find the Small Medipack
Probably on your escapades you’ve seen a lever on one of the
columns under water? Float in front of the gap between the grayish walkway with
the fountain on your left. Then focus the camera behind Lara (press B7) and dive
down. You’ll find the lever on this pillar. Pull it down and the second
grating on the floor will now open.

Swim to the middle of the pool and dive down into the square pit
where you can collect an Artifact and some Dual 50 Caliber Pistols Ammo.

Swim up to the surface again. That was right on time, wasn’t it?
Already noticed the position of the raft when swimming around in
this area? Time to pull up there and jump to the higher walkway.

From the raft to the walkway
Position the raft in front of the balcony with your grapple. This
may take a few moves though. Jump to the raft and from there to the balcony.
Pull up and get a CHECKPOINT when you run to the triple fountain.

Get onto the balcony
Jump into the pool and swim down to the bottom. Very strong water
current will push Lara up to a pipe and spit her out on the surface of a pool in
a green cavern (CHECKPOINT). Pull up where the shore is lowest and find some
Shotgun Shells on the right side.

Jump into the pool again from a position where the water flow from
the pipe is on her left side (but turn slightly right). Focus the camera on her
back (B7) and dive down into an underwater tunnel. Follow the tunnel until you
can swim upwards to a large pool in a dark cavern with a Greek temple.

To the ledge with the Ammo
Also here take your time to explore the underwater world and find
some interesting spots.
Jump into the water
from the corner of the ledge and have Lara
float with the Temple's entrance on her right. Focus the camera behind Lara’s back and from there
you can see an underwater tunnel. Dive down into the tunnel and follow it until
you find an Artifact. You won’t make it back and will have to start from the
previous Checkpoint again – but you’ll have the Artifact in your
pocket.

Face the entrance from the left side and dive down into an
underwater tunnel until you can go up to an underwater cavern with a lever. Pull
the lever that will open the gate to the Temple (CHECKPOINT).
