Level 3 – Egypt
Sublevel
3.3 – Sanctuary of the Scion
Part
3 – The Room of Horus and Anubis
Go
inside the Sphinx and grab the stone sphere to roll it down the many ramps. On
its way it will crush several rats. You can release the ball any time, e.g.
where you will find Shotgun ammo. From that point let the ball roll down into
the pool right after the stairs (or just leave it there).

Maneuver the ball down
Walk
to the ledge overlooking the pool room and earn a CHECKPOINT.
Find
a Small Medipack to the left of the ledge. Look up and notice that this pool
room is under an open cavern.

On the ledge above the pool
Jump
into the pool. Swim around and see some giant statues under water. Dive in
between the statues and find an underwater wall lever near the bottom of the
pool. Pull the lever and the water level will lower until right above the lever.

Lower the water level
You
can pull up on the bases of the huge statues – of Anubis and Horus (like
pictured on the entrance door of the Sphinx).
Climb
the base of Anubis (left) and notice a rock by his right heel. Climb his foot
and jump to the flat rock. Turn left and jump to a narrow ledge from where you
vault up to a higher narrow ledge.

Reach the highest narrow ledge on Anubis’ calf
Look
backward and notice a sinking pole and a narrow ledge on the left calf of
Anubis. You know how to reach it.

On the left calf of Anubis
Shimmy
all the way around and look backward to see a blue circle pointing upward,
indicating a grapple ring to your right.
Hang from the chain and build up momentum to reach the ledge on your right in
front of a ladder.

Reach the ledge in the corner
Pull
up and climb to the top of the ladder. From the position on the screenshot use
the Gym trick: press upward + B4 to make Lara jump backward to the narrow ledge
on her left. Vault up to the higher narrow ledge and shimmy left. Side jump to
the left narrow ledge, shimmy a bit to the left and vault up to the higher
narrow ledge.

Reach the left upper arm of Anubis
Shimmy
left and drop to his lap. Here you will see 4 Scarab plates on the floor and 4
metallic looking Scarabs on the wall left of the ladder. This is the Scarab
puzzle.
The
aim is to rotate the metal Scarabs such that they are orientated like the
pattern on the floor.
Notice
that the metal Scarabs have targets on their back indicating you can shoot them.

The initial position of the metal Scarabs
Manually
aim at the upper right Scarab and shoot until it matches the front right
orientation. Each shot rotates a Scarab 45 degrees in a counter clockwise
direction. When all 4 match, the door above the metal Scarab will open revealing
a wall lever.

The correct position of the Scarabs
Jump
into the alcove and pull the lever. This will partly raise the water. Notice
there is a ledge above you that cannot be reached now. Remember this room
though.

Raise the water
Hop down and climb the ladder. Side jump to the ledge on your right, shimmy right and vault up to the highest ledge. Side jump to 2 narrow ledges in a row on your right.

Side jump to the second narrow ledge
Shimmy
right on the second narrow ledge, look backward to see a pole and jump to it.
Swing/jump
to the opposite narrow ledge on Horus’ statue, shimmy right and prepare for a
side jump to the golden Ankh on your right.

Prepare for a jump to the Ankh
You
already notice a groove under the Ankh, meaning Lara’s weight will lower the
Ankh. The camera will show you how this will temporarily open an underwater gate
between Horus’ feet that will close when the Ankh has slowly risen again to
its original position (but not too slow!).

Lowering the Ankh will open a timed gate under water
Drop
into the pool and swim fast to your right between both statues and turn left
between Horus’ feet to dive into the opening. On the bottom you will see 4
Scarab plates similar to the ones you saw on Anubis’ lap, suggesting a second
Scarab puzzle. Take a mental screenshot of these Scarabs.

Swim through the hole and remember the 4 Scarab plates
Continue
and a bit further swim up to reach an opening. Pull up to the ledge and from the
low block vault up to a ledge near Horus’ right arm. You are on Horus’ lap
now. Look at the wall under the grilled alcove and notice 4 metal Scarabs. This
is the second Scarab puzzle. Shoot them such that they are orientated like
you’ve seen on the underwater plates.

Correct the Scarabs and open the gate
You
can already guess that pulling the lever will raise the water more. So let’s
wait and find out if there are any goodies to find down below.
Turn
back and walk to the front of Horus’ lap. On the lower ledge you will see a
decorated block. Jump down and push it into the pool (Lara will drop into the
pool too).
Dive
down and notice that is has landed on the base between Horus’ feet.

The block is now between the feet of Horus
Return
to the lever between the statues: first swim there, then dive under. Pull the
lever that will lower the water again.

Lower the water again
Swim
to the base of Horus between his feet where you will notice the block. Push it
in the middle under the grilled opening. This was the gate that used to be under
water that you temporarily opened by hanging from the golden Ankh. We have to
open this gate again.
So,
return to Anubis all the way up to the ladder like before and reach the Ankh
once again. Side jump to the Ankh from the narrow ledge in the corner and let
Lara’s weight open the gate above the block.

Open Horus’ gate again
There
you go for a new timed swim/run.
After
the cut scene drop into the water and this time you will dive under because the
water level is much lower than the first time. Swim fast to the base of
Horus.
Jump
to the block and vault up to the opening before it closes. When you’re on the
block and the gate starts rising you can still jump over!

Get past Horus’ gate
See these narrow ledges in front of you? Stand in the right corner and vault up to the 3rd narrow ledge. Shimmy around the right corner and side jump to the ledge on your right.

Reach the lower ledge inside Horus’ lap
Jump
up to the Scarab puzzle level and drop down to where the block used to stand
before you pushed it down. Hang from this ledge in the right corner and drop
down to the narrow ledge going all around Horus’s left leg. Shimmy 90 degrees
to your right where the ledge is broken and prepare for a side jump to the
golden Ankh on your right.

To the golden
Ankh
When
lowering this golden Ankh a cut scene will show you how a grilled gate lowers
behind the left shoulder of Horus. We’ll have to get into that alcove there by
raising the water level again.

A gate opens up high above
Drop
down and slide from a small slope to the left foot of Horus. Return to Anubis’
lap (yes, swim, then to his left foot, the sinking pole … all over again).
Climb
up into the alcove and pull the lever to partly raise the water. Then return to
the golden Ankh ascending the ladder and the jumping from the pole and open the
now flooded gate of Horus again – a repetition of what you’ve done before.
When you reach the 2nd Scarab puzzle jump into the alcove and pull the
lever so that the water rises to a higher level.
Swim
up from this flooded alcove.

Escape from the now flooded alcove
Swim
to Anubis whose head is above the water level and notice the alcove in his chest
left of the ladder. Dive in and swim up to this room you haven’t been in
before (remember?). CHECKPOINT.

Inside Anubis
Turn
right and notice a wall Scarab (with narrow ledge on top). If you jump to the
ledge it will lower. There is a long and stable narrow ledge above the Scarab.
Jump to the Scarab’s ledge from the low rock and immediately vault up. Look
behind you and notice the first of two sinking poles leading to a narrow ledge
on the opposite wall. You know what to do: these poles are one of the most
terrible features in this game.

Reach the opposite narrow ledge from the Scarab and the sinking poles
Shimmy
left around the corner and pull up. You are on Anubis’ right shoulder now.
Turn right and jump to the narrow ledge. Vault up 2 times to higher narrow
ledges. From the highest narrow ledge shimmy right around the corner to a full
ledge and pull up. From here you will see Horus’ head and a golden Ankh on the
left wall.

Reach the ledge
Jump
from the Anubis ledge to the Horus ledge and continue until you see a narrow
ledge on the opposite wall.
Jump
to the highest narrow ledge.

Jump to the highest narrow ledge
Drop
down to two more narrow ledges and then to the floor. You are now in front of
the opened gate behind the shoulder of Horus. Drop down into the alcove and find
a Relic.

There’s a Relic in this alcove
Collect
the Horus Idol.
The
Egyptian God of the Sky, Horus is portrayed as a Falcon or a man with a
Falcon’s head. As the God of the Sky, he became associated with Upper Egypt
(note: that is the South of Egypt). In a battle against his brother Seth for
control of Egypt, Horus lost one of his eyes.

You’ve found the Horus Idol
To
get out of this room jump to the rock formation in the left corner and jump up
to the narrow ledge above. Shimmy right around the corner, pull up and leave the
entrance. Turn left and jump to the narrow ledge. Vault up two times to the
higher narrow ledges. Shimmy left around the corner and pull up to the ledge
above Horus.

Getting out of the Relic room
From the left corner of the ledge face the golden Ankh in between the ledges above Horus and Anubis and jump to it. Your weight will lower it down causing the water to rise to its maximal level. Swim to the surface from under the balcony.

Raise the water to its maximum level
Pull
up to the ledge and follow the hallway (right-left) until you reach a room with
colored columns. CHECKPOINT. This room leads to the Sanctuary of the Scion!

Reach the column room
Before
going on, read carefully;
This
room has a central walkway leading to the Sanctuary. The walkway is flanked by 2
rows of 5 columns on either side: 5 red columns near the walkway and 5 blue
columns near the wall.
When
standing at the entrance let’s name these columns, e.g.: R4-red (the 4th
red column on the right of the walkway) and L2-blue (the 2nd blue
column on the left). Also notice the grapple hook above the walkway.
When
you proceed you will be simultaneously attacked by 2 Centaurs from behind the
right columns and 2 Mummies from behind the left. Not such a fair battle is it?

2 Centaurs and 2 Mummies!
Now there are two tactics of how to beat these guys: by straight combat or by reaching a safe spot from where you can shoot all four of them.
If
you prefer a combat keep running/jumping backward while constantly shooting at
them. The backward jumping is important because the Centaurs run faster than
Lara when she runs backward. Remember the way to the ledge by the water and you
will have them down in a minute (with some luck, but you will need at least a
Small Medipack).
A smarter way is finding a higher spot safe from them. To do so, immediately run to the right side of R1-red and jump to the low crevice. Quickly vault up to the three higher crevices.

Immediately run and jump to the crevices in R1-red
From
this highest crevice shimmy left to the end and drop down one crevice. Look
behind you and jump to a crevice in R2-red. Vault up to the higher crevice.
Shimmy 90 degrees to your right.

On R2-red
Look
backward and jump to a crevice in R2-blue. Vault up to the higher crevice and
shimmy all the way right until you see a grapple hook appearing on the wall.
When you look backward you will see a blue grapple sign pointing upward.

On R2-blue
Press
right and grapple jump to the hook and hang from the chain.
Start
swinging and near your highest peak on the left apply the Gym trick: press B7 to
focus the camera on Lara’s back, then press backward + B4 to let Lara hang
from a crevice in R4-blue.

On R4-blue
Shimmy right through 90 degrees and look backward to a crevice in R5-blue. Jump to the lowest crevice. Shimmy right and vault up to the higher crevice. Shimmy right and vault up to the 3rd crevice.

On R5-blue
Shimmy
all the way right and prepare for a side jump to a crevice in R5-red. Jump to
its lowest crevice. Shimmy to the left and vault up to two higher crevices.
Shimmy all the way left and drop to the lower crevice.

On R5-red
Shimmy
all the way left and look backward to see the ledge for your next jump.
Jump
backward to the ledge and pull up. Under Lara some very frustrated Centaurs and
Mummies are angrily waiting to devour her, but they can’t harm her from here.

On a safe ledge
Keep
walking on the ledge and shoot them one by one. This may take a while though
because they will try to hide near the walls of the ledge, but you’ll
eventually get them all flat.

Get rid of those Centaurs and Mummies
Apply
the Scion of Tihocan to the lock to open the first part of the grilled door.
CHECKPOINT.

Open the first section of the Sanctuary’s gate
Hop
down to the floor and start again from R1-red to the second narrow ledge of
R2-red, like you did before.
This
time shimmy left until you notice the grapple hook on the ceiling above the
central hallway I told you about before. Prepare for a grapple jump to the left.

Preparing for a grapple jump on the ring
Hang
from the chain and adjust you orientation and height like on the screenshot. You
should be facing L4-red. Swing and grab the upper crevice of the column.

Grab the second crevice of L4-red
Shimmy
to the far left where Lara’s back will be facing L5-red. Look backward to see
where you will be jumping to. You’ll end up on the lowest crevice of L5-red.
Vault up to the middle crevice.

On L5-red
Shimmy
90 degrees to your left so that Lara’s back is facing L5-blue. Look backward
to see the crevice in L5-blue you want to jump to.

Preparing for L5-blue
You’ll end up on the lowest crevice in L5-blue. Shimmy left to the opposite side of the column and vault up to the higher crevice.

On L5-blue
Look
backward to notice the alcove in the wall you want to jump to. Pull up and take
the Artifact.

Your 2nd Artifact
Face
yourself against the wall of the alcove and press B7 to focus the camera to
Lara’s back. Run/jump to the crevice in L5-blue. If this doesn’t work, you
must start all over from R1-red again and jump to the highest crevice of L5-red.
Shimmy right and prepare for a side jump to the ledge left of the gate.

Up to the left ledge
Use
the Scion of Qualopec in the lock to fully open the gate. CHECKPOINT.
Drop
down to the floor and face the Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is yours
Walk
into the Sanctuary and a very long cut scene will then start. So I won’t give
you all the detailed conversations, but basically it comes to this:
Lara
will take the 3rd Part of the Scion and a door will slide open behind
her back. The whole place starts rattling and shaking and Lara escapes through
the door. She ends up outside on the rim of a high cliff where she joins the
three Parts of the Scion.

Lara joins the three Parts of the Scion
Then
she starts hallucinating again about the three Keepers of the Scion in the past
who are accusing a woman of treachery. Tihocan accuses her of having brought
Atlantis into ruin. I expel you forever
from the sacred Order of the Three and condemn you to shame in the frozen limbo
of eternity.
Then
you will see that the Queen of Atlantis was Jacqueline Natla! She is captured in
a frozen fire – an eternal crystal.

The trial of Jacqueline Natla – Queen of Atlantis
Natla
swears she will take vengeance though. In a next scene we see JN with Lara at
some place in modern times Egypt (she must have resurrected – or is she a ghost?). She takes the completed
Scion from Lara and has three goons with her one of which is Larson.
Lara
wants to know what the 7th Age means but one of the bullies takes
Lara in a grip.

JN has Lara under control
An
interactive scene is now starting which you have seen before: arrows indicate
which direction you have to press and escape from being killed.

Press the three arrows in a row like indicated on the screen
Lara
escapes and jumps into the sea. She pulls up to the shore and steals a bike for
a really wild ride. In a curve she jumps to a motor yacht that is about to leave
and hides inside.

Lara hides inside a yacht
And
this is the end of the Egypt Level. Get your completion window.

The completion window of Sanctuary of
the Scion
Now let's go to Sublevel 4.1: Natla's Mines, Part 1 - Retrieving the Dual Pistols
