Sublevel
3.3 – Sanctuary of the Scion
Part
2 – The Second Scarab Mechanism
Drop
into the pool from the bridge and swim to the grilled entrance you just opened.
Follow the hallway, go right-right-left and reach the back of the huge Sphinx.
If
you’ve got 40 Shotgun Shells select your Shotgun. There are still 8
Shells in the corner on your right. Go left-right-right to the front of the
Sphinx and a Centaur will attack from your right. Run backward facing the
Centaur and keep shooting at him with your Shotgun (he should be dead with 4
shots). Be careful for accidental fire bolts and evade them by ducking or
jumping sideward.

Jump up to the ledge and return to the Sphinx room
Shoot
4 more bullets in the air and pick up the Shotgun ammo in the corner to restore
your stack of 40 Shells.
Climb
the stairs and ladder opposite the Sphinx again but this time side jump to the
narrow ledge on your right. Shimmy right and prepare for a side jump to the
first pole. Notice another ladder in the far corner.

On the right side of the ladder
Jump
from pole to pole to the stairs and go right where you’ll obtain the next
CHECKPOINT by the ladder in the corner. Go right until a gap that is too wide to
cross. Turn back to the ladder in the corner. Climb to the top, turn left and
jump to two rocks where there is Shotgun Ammo (if you need some). Turn right and
vault up to the next rock with a Large Medipack.
Return
past the top of the ladder, go right and position Lara to jump to a narrow ledge
on the left wall.

From the goodies to the gap
Jump
to the lower narrow ledge. If you miss it you’ll slide down to the base
without any harm and will have to climb both ladders again.
This
time keep holding B4 while jumping to the narrow ledge. Shimmy right and vault
up to the higher narrow ledge. Shimmy right and prepare for a side jump to the
full ledge on your right.

Crossing the gap
Pull
up and turn right. The head of the Sphinx is on your left and a column with some
crevices on your right. However you can’t reach a crevice from here. Jump to
the lower and larger ledge on your left and walk to edge. Look down and notice a
long ramp leading downward. Jump down there.
This
is the opposite part of the gap you could not cross earlier.
Walk
down halfway and notice the base of the column with the crevices you saw before
(to the right of the Sphinx). Jump to the rubble and look up to the first
crevice.

Reach the opposite side of the previous gap
Jump
to the crevice and vault up twice to the 3rd crevice and shimmy right
to the opposite end from where you can jump to a 4th crevice. Shimmy
right until you see a ledge above and a golden grapple hook hanging farther from
the ceiling.

Prepare for a jump to the ledge
Jump
and pull up and immediately two flying monsters will attack. They launch fire
balls that you should avoid. Face them and shoot until they drop dead.
Now
you’re overlooking the Sphinx from the highest ledge in this room from
where you can spot a shiny object on his head. From the corner you will also see
and blue grapple sign pointing upward. Grapple jump in the direction of the
Sphinx and swing/jump to his head. You’ve found the Dual Mini SMGs (Submachine
Guns) with extra Ammo.

To the head of the Sphinx
Look up and spot the ring on the ceiling you applied to reach the head. Grapple jump and hang from the chain. Adjust direction and height toward the previous high ledge and swing/jump to it.

Return to the high ledge
Turn
right and jump to the pole from where you swing/jump to the opposite roof. On
the other side jump to the higher narrow ledge on the opposite wall. Drop to
the lower narrow ledge and to the floor with the wall lever.

Reach the floor with the lever
Pulling
the lever will cause a second block to rise between the two sets of steps
(remember you triggered the first one earlier when I told you not to go from the
stairs). CHECKPOINT.
Both
ledges with the levers are now connected (not much use for that).
Turn
left and run up the stairs on your right leading to a hallway (just like with
the opposite lever). Go right and find a new kind of double door trap. Behind
the doors are two poles and another double door behind them. Observe what
happens: the first pole goes in and out of the left wall but in a slower pace
than the doors. When you see the pole extracting wait for the doors to get
halfway open and jump to the extended pole while you keep pressing forward so
you will swing around the pole once and press B4 to jump to the stable pole.
Immediately without swinging press B4 to jump to the ledge.

A hard trap to beat
If
you miss the pole you will drop to the floor of the pit in between the two sets
of doors or behind them.
Turn
around, quickly pass the first door trap (or both) and jump to a narrow ledge
from where you vault up to your previous position and try again.

Return to the ledge for another trial
Turn
left-left and continue until you reach the entrance to another room with an
upside down Obelisk. CHECKPOINT.
As
with the previous Obelisk room the lever won’t work and needs to be fixed.
Turn
right and jump to the narrow ledge and side jump to the next one. Now both
broken ladders are on your left.

Jumping to the left ladder
Climb down, jump to the right ladder and climb all the way down. Side jump to the narrow ledge on the left wall.

To the highest narrow ledge
Drop
down twice to the lowest narrow ledge above a Scarab mechanism. Side jump to the
left and grab one of the tablets in the frame. Vault up to the highest tablet
and let the Scarabs lock the button. Also now a ledge will emerge from the wall
above a grilled door.

The lock will trigger the ledge
This
whole mechanism is identical to the previous room but in a slightly different
sequence. Turn around and jump backward to a narrow ledge on the raised Obelisk.
Vault up to the top, turn around and jump backward to a ledge.

Reach the ledge
From
the corner jump to the lowest narrow ledge you were just on before and vault up
to the middle one. Look backward to see the first of 4 sinking poles in a row.
You know what to do to reach the opposite narrow ledge.
If
you miss the trick with the first pole and it lowers, turn around and swing/
jump to the lower narrow ledge from where you vault up to the middle one and
retry. The first one is the hardest but once you’ve got that one you’ll
easily pass the following three poles and reach the narrow ledge.

Past the 4 poles to the narrow ledge
Side
jump to the second mechanism – you know what to do and what will happen. Next
drop into the pool and dive for goodies first. Nothing found? Well, you can’t
expect everything. Swim to the ledge in front of the barred door and pull up.
Turn
left. Notice how to reach the 3rd mechanism: a pointed column to
perch on and a jump to the lower narrow ledge. Vault up to the higher narrow
ledge and side jump left to trigger the 3rd mechanism.

The 3rd mechanism engaged
Turn
backward and jump to a narrow ledge in the raised Obelisk. Vault up to the top
and shimmy around the left corner preparing a side jump to the extended ledge.
Pull up and in front of you notice the 4th mechanism.

Notice the 4th mechanism
Jump
to the (stable) pole and swing/jump to the narrow ledge. Side jump to the 4th
frame and trigger the 4th mechanism. The bridge is complete and the
camera focuses on the lever which should hopefully be repaired now.
Jump
backward to the Obelisk and to the bridge (you know the way).
Now
you have to return to the lever, basically the same way you came down.
Walk
to the alcove with the decorated door and turn left. Face Lara in line with the
(small) narrow ledge on the opposite wall and press B7 to focus the camera on
her back. Use the two sinking poles to reach the opposite narrow ledge. Should
you fail jump into the water and swim to the ledge from where you can jump to
the pointed pillar to the narrow ledges, the mechanism, the Obelisk and back to
the bridge. Again the first pole is the hardest.
Vault up to the highest narrow ledge and side jump to the ladder.

Back to the ladders
Jump
to the other ladder and back to the two narrow ledges from which you came and
reach the entrance.
Go
down the stairs and pull the lever. See the same things happening as with the
previous room. CHECKPOINT.

The door opens up
Jump
into the pool and reach the bridge in the usual way from the ledge. Good work,
no damage done. Better take your Shotgun before entering. Now would there be
another Mummy in this room? Right ‘O! Then the door will also close. Fire 3
bullets and he’s gone. Take the Ankh key from the Pedestal.

You’ve found the Ankh Key
Press
B4 to continue and the door will open and the grilled door lower down.
CHECKPOINT.

Both doors will open
You probably already saw this shiny object lying on the upper right ledge next to this room? To reach the ledge return to the ladders (yes... via those darn sinking poles). This time go all the way down the right ladder and side jump to the narrow ledge above the alcove.
To the top of the alcove
Shimmy
right around the corner to the end and drop to the straight part of the
ledge. Take the Artifact.

The way to the Artifact
Drop
into the pool and follow the hallway to the room of the Sphinx. Go
left-left-right. Now I bet again there is a Centaur waiting for you behind the
corner.
So
better run/roll to the ladder opposite the Sphinx (listen to some wild music –
there is definitely something running behind your back) and jump to the ladder.
Climb fast to the top and side jump left to the narrow ledge and side jump to
the broken stairs like you’ve done before. From here you will see TWO Centaurs
beneath, but they can’t harm you (Ha-Ha!).
Aim
with your dual Pistols or Shotgun to shoot them to death. You may have move
around though because they will try to hide. Jump between the two parts of the
broken stairs and aim from the opposite side.

Get rid of two Centaurs from the broken stairs
Run
up the stairs to the Sphinx and notice a receptacle in the form of an Ankh on
either side of the panel with the Gods Horus and Anubis.
Place
an Ankh Key in each receptacle and the panel will slide upward. Inside there is
a ramp going down and spherical boulder on the left. That doesn’t promise
anything good... CHECKPOINT.

The Sphinx door is open now
Now let's go to Sublevel 3.3: Sanctuary of the Scion, Part 3 - The Room of Horus and Anubis
