3.2 – Obelisk of Khamoon
Part
1 – Timed Race to the Top
Run
up through the opened gates and enter a magnificent and high courtyard. There is
a black monolith at the end of the protruding ledge and behind that stands a
huge and richly decorated Obelisk on a ledge in the middle of a pool down below.
In a small alcove of the Obelisk you can spot a shiny thing.
Pull
the lever on the right side of your ledge and watch how the black monolith is
turning into a draw bridge lowering to the Obelisk. CHECKPOINT.

Pulling the lever triggers a bridge
You
can see three more of these black monoliths that probably will become bridges
later on. Walk on the bridge and pick up the shiny thing in the Obelisk.
CHECKPOINT.

You’ve found the Eye of Horus
Return
to the entrance and turn right where you will see a ladder in the corner leading
downward.

Jump to the ladder from this spot
Descend
all the way to the pool level and pick up some Dual 50 Caliber Pistols Ammo near
the first column (if you have 150 Shells forget about them).
All
you can do is jump into the pool now and swim to the opposite ledge where there
are also 4 of these pillars. Facing the pool from here a Small Medipack is at
your disposal by the 2nd column from the left.

Stand
in between the two middle columns and notice a grilled alcove on your right and
an open entrance on your left.

Swim
to the opening on the left and follow the hallway. You’ll reach a CHECKPOINT
in front of a double horizontal trap door that is opening and closing very fast.
When they open run/roll twice past them. Turn left to see a second door. Roll
through, go left and now meet two of them in a row. Just apply the same tactics.

Now you have to pass two of them in a row
Go to the right and get a CHECKPOINT and warning music. You have entered a very complicated high room full of ledges and poles. Find Shotgun Ammo behind the steps (if you need the Shells). Then climb the steps and jump to the Ankh above the cartouche. Lara’s weight will lower the Ankh causing a square pillar to lower behind her back. When you let go the pillar will raise up again after a few seconds, so jump backward, run to the lowered pillar and jump to it. Ride it.

Turn
left and see a pole with some narrow ledges on the opposite wall

Jump
to the pole and swing/jump to the lowest narrow ledge, vault up 2 higher and
shimmy right. Behind Lara is a ledge that will retract into the wall when she
hangs from it. The ledge has two parts.

Have a look at the retracting ledge
Jump
backward, pull up, run/jump to section 2 and jump to a stable ledge in the
corner.

Reach the corner ledge
Stand
on the middle groove of the ledge and run/jump to the opposite ledge that is
part of the central level of the room. It’s a long jump so keep pressing B4.
Even then you will hang from one hand so quickly press B1 to hang from both
hands and pull up. Have a look back from where you came.

Start your running jump from here
Now
you have to do the same thing: jumping to the opposite ledge.

Jump to the third ledge
Pull
up to the ledge and turn around to see that there is a pillar on an opposite
ledge on your left that contains 2 narrow ledges. Above the second narrow ledge
darts are constantly launched from the right pillar to the left hole in the
wall. Also there is a smaller pillar in between the two larger pillars.

The situation in the central level
Now
walk to the wall lever that will trigger two swing/jump poles high above and
start a timed sequence. You will have to climb up through the pillars before
they retract and that means: HURRY!!!

After
the cut scene run/jump to the left ledge with the pillar holding two narrow
ledges. Pull up and jump from one ledge to the higher and shimmy around the
right corner where you turn backward to spot the lower pillar.

Reach the lower pillar and hang from it
Shimmy
around two corners to the other side and look backward too see a narrow ledge on
the third and higher pillar which has an angled top. Shimmy right and vault up
to the top of the slope (this is the top of the pillar). Shimmy right and
prepare for a sideward jump to the narrow ledge on the wall on your right.

Reach the narrow ledge on the wall
Prepare for a side jump to your right where the lower of the two timed poles is still extracted. Swing/jump to the opposite ledge and get a CHECKPOINT that you should save by all means.

Swing/jump to the ledge and get a Checkpoint
Intermezzo:
Should
you start from here again (say when you drop down and die later on or restart
the game) the upper pole would have retracted anyway. Instead of reloading from
the previous Checkpoint all the way down where you had to jump to the Ankh and
jump up to the central level with the wall lever again to initiate your timed
run, descend to that level from this
Checkpoint.
It’s
easy: turn right, press B7 (to adjust the camera view to Lara’s back) and look
down. You’ll see the middle ledge of the central level from where you can jump
to the ledge with the lever. Jump to the still extracted pole and shimmy to the
wall. Swing/jump to the narrow ledge on the wall (where you came from). You may
either grab the narrow ledge or bump to its corner and drop down to the ledge in
which case you will take some insignificant damage. If you did grab the narrow
ledge (and you never know) drop down without damage done. Then jump to the ledge
with the lever and pull it to start your timed run to the top again.

How to return to the lever from the Checkpoint
Once
on the ledge with the Checkpoint run to the right and before reaching the corner
make a sideward left jump to the lower narrow ledge. Then vault up to the higher
narrow ledge.
Turn
backward to see a ledge that looks like it will retract when you land on it.
Pull up and run/jump to the opposite ledge where you should hang. To do this
correctly jump from the middle of the retracting ledge.

Reaching the middle ledge
Shimmy
fast past the pillar (keep tapping B1 to speed up), pull up and hang from the
opposite side of the ledge. Shimmy fast to the far left where you are hanging
under the next pillar.

Under the next pillar
Jump
to the narrow ledge and shimmy around the left corner. Look backward and notice
a narrow ledge of the next pillar where you can jump to.

Jump to the higher narrow ledge of the next pillar
Drop
down to the lower narrow ledge and fast shimmy around the right corner where you
pull up. Notice a couple of narrow ledges in the opposite corner and jump to the
lower one. Shimmy fast to the left.

The left side of the lower narrow ledge
Vault
up to the higher narrow ledge and shimmy fast to the left. In the corner the
camera will then focus on a grapple ring on the decorated wall. Jump backward
and drop down long enough before you grapple on the ring (this is the
trickiest part of the timed sequence). You have to jump quite low before
grappling on the ring to get the maximum
length of your chain. Under there is the retractable ledge with two sections
that you passed before and you must not crash on this ledge. Finding the exact
spot of where to grapple is a matter of sheer luck because it really depends on
a millimeter: you either drop dead on that ledge or you will get the maximal
length of your chain, and you really need that.
Swing
left, right and left again to reach your maximal height as well and press B4 to grab the narrow ledge in the
corner.
If
you don’t have maximal chain length + maximal height you will
definitely miss the narrow ledge and drop dead. Now go on and get it done in
less than some 50 trials like I had to do (sigh!).

Grapple jump to the narrow ledge
Shimmy
fast to the left and side jump to the narrow ledge on your left. Shimmy fast to
the left until you are right under the hole that shoots the darts and look
backward to see a pillar. Jump backward and hang from the top.

Hang from the top of the pillar
Shimmy
left around two corners on your left and look backward. Jump backward to a
narrow ledge on the next pillar and shimmy around the left corner from where you
can vault up twice to the top of the pillar.

Hanging from the top of the pillar
Pull
up and turn left. If you were fast enough you should see the timed higher pole
still extended. If not, you were too slow and have to reload from the Checkpoint
where you can drop down to the wall lever and start the timed race all over
again.

Too late!

On time!
Jump
to the opposite ledge and turn right. Quickly jump to the pole before it starts
retracting and swing/jump to the opposite ledge where you find the Artifact
behind a formation of rocks. CHECKPOINT.

Hurry to the ledge and get the Artifact
Now
the extended poles have become steady too. Standing on the ledge you now see two
poles in a row. Jump to the first pole, swing/jump to the ledge you came from
and jump to the second pole.

Reaching the second pole
Swing/jump to the opposite wide ledge and get a CHECKPOINT when you turn left. In the left corner you will find a Large Medipack behind the column.
