Level 2:

THE WORLD MAP

We’ll now find the Prince and his Princess in one of their endless discussions (what else are men and women spending their precious time with – especially Royalties?).

A discussion outside the Temple

Prince: Any more of your relatives going to try and kill us? Or is it just your Father who wants the end of the world?
Elika: Do you think I wanted any of this!?
Prince: Well, what do we do now? Presuming the Great God of Darkness doesn’t just squish us flat...
Elika: He can’t have escaped yet. Not fully. The Temple must still have the power to contain him. Something happened to the Fertile Grounds. If we can get to them we might be able to stop Ahriman escaping.

The Fertile what?

Elika: This land was build to keep Ahriman here. These areas feed the Temple with Life Energy. The Temple feeds the Tree. We have to stop him.

Elika shows the Prince some kind of a floor Map

Prince: We have to get out of here.
Elika: Fine, run, but you’re not going to get very far.
Prince: Arhhh! I was on my way home! I had more Gold than you could... I’d have wine! Women! If ever I find that Donkey...

I’d have Carpets this thick...THIS thick!!

Now I’m stuck with and angry God and a crazy woman! [that’s not a nice thing to say, man, after all she did to rescue you from dropping dead]
All right, which one of these things do we need to... do whatever to?

Elika is standing on the Map:
We can’t reach the Fertile Grounds in these areas. We’d need to... we can’t reach them anyway... We’ll have to get to these four. Then we can see what’s...
Now press / to open the World Map:

Welcome to the Map Tutorial

You will only see the Map Tutorial once. It will explain you about the layout and how to set a destination. Press green for the next picture:

The locked Lands

You can see a blue ring flickering around the Lands that are yet locked. You will need to activate a Power at the Temple before you can reach them. Press green for the next picture:

The four Powers at the Temple

Each of these four Lands have a Power to be found. But they are only accessible when Elika has enough Light Seeds. Each Power activates a specific kind of Power Plate that is needed to access certain locked Lands. Press green to continue:

You need to choose a destination

As you can see, there are four destinations you can choose from. Press green to continue:

Move the green circle with LAS

The Game is not linear from here on, so you can select any of the four Lands. Let’s follow from left to right. Move the green circle around the left one of the four unlocked Lands. Press green:

Highlight any unlocked destination

Press green to set your destination

The Land of your destination is now radiating.
Exit the World map by pressing /.

The Prince and Elika are standing on the Map and you are urged to press yellow to see the path to your destination.

Press yellow now

Elika will throw a white flair that shows the path to your destination (Autosave).
Open the World Map again to study more details. Press /:

Find details on the Map

The Map looks more detailed now and from now on this is how it will look. In the panel on the right you can read the specs of your destination. The land is called King’s Gate and is one of the 6 Lands that constitute the Ruined Citadel.

You need no Power to enter it.
You’ve found 0/45 Light Seeds in the Ruined Citadel.
The status is corrupted, meaning its Fertile Grounds are not restored yet.
You need to collect 60 Light Seeds required for the next Power.

You can also highlight other Lands and find out what they’re called. Highlight the other three accessible lands:

The Vale – The Cauldron

Royal Palace – The Cavern

City of Light – City Gate

So now you know the names of the four main areas. From left to right:
Ruined Citadel
The Vale
Royal Palace
City of Light

Next, learn some more of the locked Lands. Move up the circle and highlight the next Land of the Ruined Citadel:

Ruined Citadel – The Sun Temple

In the right panel you can see a lock. The Power you need to entering is Step of Ormazd.
Highlight this Power at the Temple :

Elika’s Power - Step of Ormazd

When you highlight the Power, the Map will also show the Lands that require this Power for entering. There are four of them: two in the Ruined Citadel and two in The Vale.
You may explore more and find out which Power is required for accessing each Land...

Follow the path and have another of these endless discussions with hers when you will be asked to (pres LT when you see the talk sign).
Prince: There’s nothing here for us.
Elika: We must get to the Fertile Grounds. We are wasting time.
Prince: What are these Fertile Grounds?
Elika: They feed the Temple. Give it the Energy it needs to hold Ahriman trapped. I don’t know. They were constructed a thousand years ago after Ahriman was imprisoned. Now if you want the guide tour, can we wait until after we’ve re-imprisoned Ahriman?
Prince: You don’t know what will these Fertile Grounds do?
Elika: We have to get to them, please just go on.
Prince: Have you got a Plan B in case this doesn’t work?
Elika: I’ve not got to Plan A yet.
Prince: Then where are we going?
Elika: To find Plan A.
Prince: Ahriman, can’t we just kill him?
Elika: He’s a God...
Prince: How long have we got?
Elika: If the Tree is still holding him... Hours... Moments maybe.

A discussion in front of the direction they’ll have to follow

Prince: Is there anyway out of here?
Elika: Other than the way we came in?
Prince: Yes.
Elika: No, there’s not.
Prince: Terrific. So what’s with your Father?
Elika: So what’s with your Donkey?
Prince: Do you know how hard it is to find a good Donkey? Good Donkeys are hard to find.
Elika: I’m beginning to worry about you and your Donkey.

And the soap goes on...
Prince: If Ahriman is trapped, how can we hear him?
Elika: He’s not escaped, what we see and hear of him... That’s just the little that can be heard through the prison bars.
Prince: So you lived here?
Elika: Yes, lived, grew up, it has been my life.
Prince: If you are a Princess... where are all your people? Was it Ahriman, have they been turned into those Monsters?

The Prince needs answers

They left

Prince: Where did they go?
Elika: Beyond... Into the desert.
Prince: You don’t know, do you?
Elika: They deserted their duty. They left the thing they’d pledged their lives to.
Prince: These people that left, that had pledged their lives, they came here, or they were born here?
Elika: The Temple is the duty of our people.
Prince: How can you pledge your life to something if you don’t know anything else? That’s not a choice.
Prince: Let Ahriman free, or protect the world from him... You’re right: there is no choice. Why are you doing this?
Elika: What?
Prince: Helping me? Because there’s no way to get out of here...
Elika: Why “are” you doing this? It’s not, you’re not doing this for me, are you? I’ve seen you looking at me. I recognize that look.
Prince: Hey, you’re cute, but not stay to fight a dark God cute.
Elika: Would you have helped my Father if he had asked you?
Prince: He’s not that cute either [Sorry, gays!]
Elika: I just want to know that I can rely on you. People can... Well they can...
Prince: And you have a lot of experience with people?
Elika: I have experience of men doing stupid things for women.
Prince: Well, I only do stupid things for myself. You’re an attractive Lady. [here we go again]
Elika: I’ve got a brain too [typical answer of a flattered girl]
Prince: It’s a pity you’re wasting both.
Elika: And you’re the person to lecture me on that?
Prince: I have looks and brains then do I?
Elika: One rely on too much, the other you don’t use at all [ouch!]
Prince: There’s nothing wrong with good looks? [we’ve seen better, mate, but you’re looking OK]
Elika: Gold Glitters, but it’s what you buy with it that counts.
Prince: What have I got myself into?

Now run left of the door with the two golden pillars.

Run to this entrance

And watch Elika turn electric blue in the Prince’s arms

Watch a similar vision like we’ve seen at the beginning of this Story:

The white Tree...

...turns black!

Fragments of bones will become visible and Elika and the Prince will suddenly be “beamed” to another place.

Beam us up, Scotty

Did they land on another place?

Prince: Can this day get any worse?
Elika: They’re the corrupted. Ahriman’s chosen few. They ruled here a thousand years ago.
Prince: That thing we saw, the Darkness that was
...

That was Ahriman

You must exhaust a new conversation (repeatedly pressing LT). You’ll see a talking sign appearing in the lower left corner. Then press LT:

Notice the talking sign

Prince: What was that... A dream? That thing we saw, the Darkness that was...
Elika: That was Ahriman [haven’t we just heard that before?]
Prince: If we saw Ahriman in the Vision, doesn’t that mean it’s him creating them?
Elika: It wasn’t Ahriman. This is Ormazd’s power. It is the Temple, protecting itself.
Prince: Is that thing we fought in the Temple a Corrupted?
Elika: No, it was a Soldier of Ahriman. Some were trapped with him when he fell.
Prince: How many Soldiers is ‘some’?
Elika: No one knows. Some Scriptures talk of Ahriman falling with the four Corrupted and a thousand Followers.
Prince: Let’s hope they’re off by a few hundred. Do the Corrupted know where we’re going?
Elika: The Corrupted lived here when Ahriman conquered the City, but the Fertile Grounds weren’t here then. The Ahura built them to contain Ahriman.
Prince: This would be the Ahriman we could hear in the Temple? They know where we’re going. What are these Corrupted?
Elika: Ahriman’s chosen. They sold their Soul to him in return for rewards. They will fight for him, they will fight to be free.
Prince: The Corrupted sold their Souls. What’s the going rate? [now isn’t this funny?]

Elika: Most who stood against him were killed or turned into the Creatures we’ve seen. Even some of those who sold themselves into service just because of some Ahriman’s Creatures. The Corrupted were different, they retained some of their free will. Some of their Soul and Ahriman gave them powers to fight for his cause.
Prince: The Corrupted are free?
Elika: They are still the person they were, at least somewhere inside they are but they are all Ahriman Puppets.

Five more Levels will now follow: the four main Areas and Elika’s Powers.
Each of the four main Areas has 12 Sublevels (the 6 Lands and their 6 Light Seeds). The sequence is randomly chosen by myself which I thought of as the most logical. If you decide to choose a different sequence this Walkthrough will be partly matching your Game. If you want to play and also read the Walkthrough, you are invited to follow this sequence.

The Prince and Elika are standing by the Entrance to The King’s Gate...
